Re. The fitting of a set of after market, progressive fork springs to a 1992 K100rs 16v.
Any comments or observations, problems found, improvements in handling noted etc. that I can use as a guide in deciding if this is a step I will take.
Also any recommended places/prices for obtaining same.

Am in the process of replacing fork seals in my 4valve project which I have not had on the road yet and found the fork springs were accompanied by a number of thick packing washers under the top cap!
Do the forks on the 90-92 models have a reputation for being soft or is a larger rider a more likely reason. Am considering whether they stay or go while the forks are apart.

I would think it worth playing around with various fork oil viscosities as well before spending the big bucks on springs. I may give that a try.

spings for the front might not be that expensive really .......progressive seem the go .....(better than trying to find a good cheep rear suspension unit)

whats it for nz1 ? an rs or rt/lt .....

because the difference in weight distribution is quite noticable .

i'm thinking along the lines of upgraded (read different) springs as well
i figure that the sag in the front end is time and presure related and , quite normal for the age of our beasts ....(their not the youngest kid on the block, nor the lightest )

but before i go there ..i recon ill give different fluids a good workover...

i recently replaced my front end fluids with 10w fork stuff ....but maybe 15 weight might be more appropriate ...for me and machine ...

i guess in the end its all about personal choice of ride smoothness versus tight control ..and thankfuly we have the alternatives to try ...

could that be a solution rocket ....preload..? it certainly would stiffen up the low speed weight distribution on the front end and assist with diminishing the braking dive of a strong fisted rider.

Progressive Suspension-brand springs are OK if they are the variety that don't have to be pre-tensioned too much. With some models you must cut a 3-1/2" PVC pipe to get them to react properly or at all. Also, I don't trust their listings as they often don't reflect the variety of fork brands there are for K bikes of our vintage. Are they Showa forks on your 1992? I fitted the 'S' fork tubes to my late-'86 K100RS and played round with 5W up to 15W until settling upon 5W for its ability to allow the forks to react quickly to small bumps without allowing the forks to dive terribly when braking. I am not a lightweight @ 90 kilos soaking wet but found any heavier viscosity made the forks too harsh.

Thanks all for the ideas, in the absence of reference experience using the RS as its been set up, I'll retain the washers someones added and stick to the 5w for putting it back on the road, then if need be tinker as required.

just a question ....i have seen the "wurth" replacement springs advetised over in europe ......
i believe that the brand name "wurth" carries a respected reputation

has anybody had dealings, installed or evalued their product ???
