Hello Guys,

The speedometer of my bike is not working since day 1 I bought the bike. As advised previously, I did checked the sensor by the drive shaft. Try to take it off, but could not. I also read in previous topics that is is a magnetic type and a friend told me that mostly the sensor is good and strong. He also suggests to check the instrument cluster.

Yesterday I dismantled the dashboard and checked the speedometer part......unbelievable??? How could these gears crumbled, yet the other 2 gears are still good.

Please see the picture: 2 Crumbled small moving gears.

These gears came off the "green" shaft and in front of the red gear in below picture:

Does anyone by chance have a damage speedometer but the moving gears are still good? I would like to buy it of you.

Thanking you for your kind attention.

Best regards.

When I restored a '80 BMW 528 I needed odometer gears and got just the gears here:
http://www.speedometergears.com/

Don't know about for the K bikes, but I bet he can help. He'd need to know how many teeth were on that pile of powder you used to call a gear. Someone will likely have to make that count for you on another gauge set.

Ado, have a look at
http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Stuff/BMW_Tech/Speedo_Repair/speedo_repair.htm

There are two pages of good photos of the disassembly of your speedo.

I am pretty sure gears are available if not from the site above but certainly elsewhere.

Good chance to do a bit of research and contribute to Bert's planned webpage Smile

Ask on Flyingbrick.de. They are aware re those parts. I understand that BMW cars of similar vintage have the same gears behind the gauges (E30??)

Great site but the concept of counting the teeth on the original gears could, in this case, be a tad difficult. Very Happy

That is the problem Phil. I can not measure the size or the original gears.

Cheers.

Might I suggest that rather than anguishing about the number of teeth drop them a line with the details of your bike - model, year and month of manufacture and see if they can advise. My guess is they will have done it before.

Ado, here is a company that makes the gears for our speedometers...
www.odometergears.com.
Click on the BMW link and at the bottom of the page, there is information on K bike speedo gears.

Email them (or visit their web site) to see if they can help.
