Hey folks,

I'm interested in finding out what brand/weight of bar ends you are using and if you could please post your impressions of how effective they are at helping to take the edge of the buzz that would be great!

Thanks,
OG

Throttlemeister's heavy duty and it made no difference at all to the 'bar's vibes. Zip. Nada. None. They're a great throttle lock though!

Yep, I got real technical with mine, they are steel parallel type with c/sunk M5 screw in the end. So I took them out and went to great pains to find new O rings, freed up the threads, repainted them and refitted,................ not a scrap of difference, bloody useless ! So I bought a set of foam oversize touring grips and I think they are much more effective for reducing the transmission of vibration to my little pinkies. I think some people have also poured lead shot into the handle bars, not sure if this is effective though. Some also talk about some gel type gloves, not sure about them either.

Thanks guys for the info. I was thinking something other than just bar end was going to be needed and your experience certainly confirms this.
Going to experiment using some old speaker tuning tricks and I'll post if I find something that is particularly effective.

My 'bars only vibrate a bit and at certain varying RPMs. It's the 'pegs that give me the shits at about 110kph or 4400 to 4800 RPM, the maximum legal speed in most of OZ (It's 130 kph in 'The Territory'). I am 'forced' to ride at 100 or 120, but rarely in between.

This XS11 blog has an entry called "How to eliminate handlebar vibrations" that has many good suggestions. The goal is to do one or more of the following:
  • decouple the bars from the source of vibration
  • change the resonant frequency of the bars
  • dampen the vibrations

The suggestions include bar-end weights, butyl rubber filled bars, lead shot filled bars, rubber isolated clamps, and longer bars.
