hi guys ,

i may be placing a smallish order to motobins in the coming week or so ,

after getting a price for a replacement mirror (glass) from our friend at the bm shop ....

i feel inclined to get one from o/s at nearly 1/4 the price

there are another couple of goodies that i need to investigate as well

so if anybody (local area) has requests for smallish items ...it might help the shipping costs defray somewhat

I might be in on that, Charlie. I need a coupla items that BMW Australia, in their eternal wisdom, don't bother to carry in stock at the warehouses Down Under.

i have heard that there will be a clamp down on exports-imports out of many countries ...of which aussie is a co-signature

i believe that its based on importers and tax frauds that operate out of country of origin ie : the retailer is based overseas and sell direct into the local markets that they advetise in .

my understanding so far it that its based on (well for here at least ) trade amounts of $1000 a month or sum such ...i guess i should do some further investigation .

Not to sure how that will work in practice, at the moment, items need a customs declaration which people commonly put Gift on it. Within the UK and you order something from the US for example you can get stung with the import duty.

The way I see it is that I wouldn't have a problem sending a gift to Aus etc. and label it as a gift to friends who are in need of a part.... if you get my drift....

The 'talk' in the news here, which is akin to a trial balloon to gage the reaction of the citizenry, is that the Gubmint won't touch any online, overseas buy unless it exceeds AU$1000. Her esteemed highness, not-quite a royal clucky, Ms Julia Gillard, Prime Minister, has herself stated that the Gubmint has no plans to change the status quo as regards taxing or slapping duties on the average battler's overseas buys. I reckon our piddly Motobins, Motorworks, eBay & etc, spare parts purchases will be safe for a good long while yet Down Under. But I remain ever wary with more than one eye open.

lol your prime minister.... the one that was born in the uk!? Wink and is anti the Queen isn't she...

That isn't so bad if there was a $1000 barrier, but essentially you would be getting taxed on it twice unless it is set up internationally so that you only pay tax once

Oh right, that would make sense, it's been a while since i lived outside of the UK, and we had the rigmarole of having to get paperwork stamped and sent back to the UK so we didn't pay VAT at the UK end...

Almost back to the thread now... I should pay attention what i need from motobins as i keep putting separate orders in and paying lots of postage....

We pay only our GST which is the same thing as your VAT, but we don't pay your VAT when we buy from the UK or our GST when we buy from the UK too, yet. Clear!? LOL

Ms Julia was born in Wales, is a Republican, was raised up in South Australia where she learnt that broader-than-an-Aussie accent quite well, and is good with a knife, just ask Kevin07.
