Silly question, maybe, but does anyone know if the rear shock from a 2004 R1200RT will fit on the K100RT? I have an opportunity to get one for a good price and need to replace my aging rear. I do mostly one-up riding only.

In a word No they are very different. The shock on the 1200 lays forward at probably 40deg and so has a much stronger spring and is also a bit shorter.

One of the best buys is a Ram shock from realm engineering in UK about 299Pounds for the best and they have a good reputation.

Agreed, the R1200RT shock isn't designed to work in a long travel environment like the K100's shock is. It's because the R12 shock is closer to the swingarm pivot, is nearly vertical, and wasn't intended or designed to travel in long suspension movements. Also, the spring 'strength' is so much higher than the K100's.
