just thought to throw this out there ...

for one reason or another many of us get together every now and then....which is great !!!

but many of the members around here either, arent in the loop , have work commitments or what ever.

lately every weekend or every second weekend, i find myself on the road for a breath of fresh air ...a look up a road i havent travelled lately ....on the way to see a friend or just a loop out of the city .

i thought it was about time to post local rides that we may have thought about ...maybe late friday night , saturday , for suday morning or whatever .

now im not suggesting that this should be a meetup thread ....but for those of us who find they are getting out and not sure where to go , it might be good info for location ie: ...what and where you have thought about ...what time you are likely to hit a marker (town , turnoff , maccas ) suggested trip destination and return route ...that kinda thing ...

for example ,

2 weeks ago i headed south to woodenbong via beaudesert ....over to legume ....kilarney...and back via queen mary falls to boonah.. beaudesert and then home .i typically fill up at the bp at browns plains 8.15 ish ...whilst there i was joined by the honda riders (all of 750 4 s and others 900 f etc ) in a period of about 10-15 minutes 30 odd bikes fronted ...and after another 15 were gone for a ride .

last weekend i headed south along the coast ....only to find out alby was on the northside around redcliff area etc ....i could have headed north and bumped into him ...?

so maybe you have a favorite fill up joint on the south side ...north side... south west side ...whatever and a favourite departure time ?

the bp on the highway at yatla is one good example

the bp just south of browns plains on the beaudeasert road is another

the bp service centre just south of caboolture on the highway is another

i just raise this as it could work out convienently for some of us ...who cant get to the mark in time or just hadnt planned anything .

funny enough twb, blakey , and myself had a mini meetup at the bmw dealership at daisy hill this morning, quite unplanned and all, but was good ....these oportunities dont arise very often .

"bean old boy" has asked if there was planned ride recently...and i could have posted here this morning when i found out i was heading over to daisy hill ...or like tommorrow .. thinking of a run up to nebo- glorious not a big one ...but would be great to bump into someone

twb is out of the loop for tommorrow ...family stuff ...so didnt mention it

so what do you think guys ...? care to post ?

Hi Charlie would be keen for a ride tomorrow, have never been up to glorious on a bike. Ive always gone to dayboro, canungra or the somerset cafe is always a good ride coffee run. Would like to be able to put faces to names so to speak.

I'm not the quickest at the mo still getting used to the k.

Let me know if your going tomorrow, cheers.

just a clarification for all you web folks ....the nearest crossroads is payne road which is about 100 meters past the servo

which is 852 waterworks road

good one cafe ....would be glad to see you there ... hey mate we all are learning ....yet again (who said you cant teach old dogs new tricks)

its a good ride up that hill ...and in no hurry ...my young and dumb attitude left years ago... rear end puckering is not required ...erm too often !!!

everything is a go.... check for rain first ...if broken weather ..yes thanks ...solid rain, well ...only the committed ...but the weather map looks as though its all clearing over the next 24 hours .

if folks havent been up to the gap before ...or are unsure of the route ...we could make a meet at maccas at suncorp /milton road ....if comming from city turn right just at suncorp (after the pedestrian overpass )....then left into the back of maccas about 50-100meters down the street at 8.00 ... 8.15 leave time for the next leg at waterworks road

I hope you keep this thread open till Jan 1, 2 . Im picking up my baby brick and bringing her home on the 5th and Bris is not that big a detour Adelaide -Melbourne, is it? guess 3000kms vs 800. Should be doable .

@ Ghost who rides just shy of 2000 klm Adel via Broken Hill or Adel via Mildura Smile but if you choose Adel via Melb take the hills route either Chain of Ponds or Gorge Road then out thru Lobethal and join the freeway at Murray Bridge

Thanks Toto , i was just in Adelaide for 5weeks and did 4 times Norlunga to Tanunda taking different routes each leg and only used south rd once each way , the rest in the hills ,reliving my youth !
Yeah now i think about it 4000kms is more like it. Good excuse to visit Broken Hill , some good memories there.

i hope others will be posting here

the intention is just to give a heads up to local riders about what might be happening

today cafe racer , alby (rode all the way down from the country ) and myself ..quietly rode the nebo -glorious hill climb..( a first for alby and cafe ) we took it kinda steady ...and im sure was enjoyed by all .

the cafe was closed ( for undisclosed reasons ) and the bike park out the front was verry noticably empty ...no worries ...just up the road is another ....cooling iced coffee was the go ... alby running late we headed out the west side of the hills and down that tricky hairpin track out off the mountain ...alby off to the right ..(back up to kingaroy) ..and us off to the left for a pie at fernvale ,,

some hot weather round here ...and we stopped for a look around at a lookout (about 1/2 the way up )

was a good ride ...short, but appreciated as christmas aproaches and other things seem to take precedence ....good to meet caferacer ...and im sure he'll be along for more ventures as time goes on

Tuesday would be better Charlie(I only have half a bike together at the moment) the road your talking of is the Hampton - Esk rd. Its the first left after the bridge as you go into Esk. Supposed to be a good cafe at the top T intersection with the Toowoomba - Crows Nest rd. Will do some research, maybe a good pit stop. If not CrowNest isnt far.

Sounds like a great run though, looking forward to getting out.

Be good to meet up K, how long would it take for you to get to Hampton? There is a little park a the T intersection of Hampton-esk rd and the from Toowoomba and Crows Nest. Would be a good place to meet. Sorry Charlie hijacked your ride, just throwing some ideas in Smile

Im in at this stage!! Very Happy The cafe at hampton is good!! Nice lot of concrete slab there. I have some foam insulation for cafe..best take those odd colored things off my bike before blakey????

charlie99

Life time member
Life time member
ok heres a couple of options

news just in ....."guest" (twb) might be joining us for the run up to hampton

meet point in brissy ...shell at macgregor ...(right next to the garden city shoping centre.... kesells road ) 8.00 or 8.30 leave time ?

for blakey and alby ...esk might be a good meet point ....i recon an hour down the road for us city slickers will get us there (esk) then the hill ride ...

of corse alby may just love to watch us "drongos" climb the hill and meet us at hampton ...with kfreak ...

i can see them sitting atop of the hill throwing empty tinnies at us ....giggle

the long option for brisvegas folks

this allows for kfreak to peel off at allora - warwick and alby to head back via toowoomba us derelicts can traverse the down hill via queen mary falls to carneys creek and boonah ,,,(similar to the reverse direction were planning for later in the year )

or the shorter ,,,but boring option straight back down the hiway to redbank then home

back via redbank etcetera

twb and a few of us have travelled the heifer creek road up to clifton before so it might not gain instant approval

i have a feeling there are other less travelled roads around the gatton area that might be a better choice on the return path ....hey... but im open to suggestions the main criteria being esk , hamptons , murpheys creek ...

Thats a nice run thru lowood, i'm not fussy as to the route just keen for a ride. Put the bike back together last night. Took it for a run about 1/2 hour ago. Woohoo what a difference opening up the exhaust has made. bounce

news ...blakey is avoiding the woodford area ....(the folk festival is on )

so ill post a pic of the route to the shell at kessels road

so if comming down the gateway take the turnoff that points to mount gravatt -capalabah road ......same road ... turn right ( your heading west )

if comming from the city ...go past the mount gravatt shoping center onm the left ...then take a left exit ...and follow logan road (north )to the intersection of kessels- capalabah road ...take a left after the shoping center ..its around the corner by about 100 meters

invite yourself along ....we dont bite ...and should be a great day
