Following up recommendations to buy Deoxit, my Google searches so far indicate that it is not for sale in SA. My local auto accessory shop stocks an aerosol cleaner for electrical contacts manufactured by Spanjaard:

Spanjaard Lectro Kleen - anyone used it? SpanjaardElectroClean

I'd be interested to know if anyone has tried this and if so what they think of it.

Cheers, Chris

Hi C-Mick, Living here in Africa does have a few disadvantages when we need goodies for our old K Bikes. Spanjaard makes good products and I am sure that it will do the same as Deoxit. I have been using Q2 which is an electrical cleaner and it also works well. Try not to get it on any overspray on the screen or parts that could stain !

Thanks Lazyboy, as I can't get DeOxit I'll give this a try. Not sure whether I will need to take the plastic connectors apart or whether it's fine to direct the aerosol spray on to the pins and sockets of the connectors. Maybe there will be some instructions that cover this point.

Cheers, Chris

Guys, ex Durbanite here, the Q2 should do the trick it is similar to WD 40 but has less lube properties, I used WD40 with a small wire brush and then a de-greaser again with the brush and finally the DeOxit.
Have you tried any of the specialist Hi-Fi shops as they are more likely to stock DeOxit, but it is hellish expensive.

Lekker ry, pasop vir die Kerels. Smile

Just keep an eye out to see if it is OK to use around plastic items.

The difference with DeoxIT is that you can spray it around and not damage anything. It chemically treats the metal to actually enhance electrical flow.

No, I do not have shares in the Company!

What about their Lubricating Switch Cleaner? Apparently it cleans and leaves behind a protecting and lubricating film. The Lectro Kleen may only clean the switch or whatever and leave it "dry".
