I bought a second hand exhaust from an 1987 K100 RS for my 1985 RS but they are slightly different
original exhaust part no 18 12 1451 528
replacement 18 12 1454 918
The mounting bracket is about 25mm closer to the manifold, with the same 2 hole plate as the original, should I make an adaptor bracket, or does anyone have any other ideas. The side stand does not clear it either have I wasted my cash?

The easy option is to list it on ebay and provide the correct details of what it fits then hunt out the one you need, esp as not only a bracket needs making but an adjustment or a replacement stand would be needed....

All you should need is the late model rubber mounting. It bolts to the 2 holes in the footpeg plate and one on the muffler.

really confused now checked both the part numbers on the realOEM fiche and neither of the exhausts have the right part number. Is there anywhere I can search by part number without having to put the bike model number etc as well.

Something's wrong mate. Both the numbers you give are not being recognised by the system. Where did you find them?

Easiest is putting your bikes' VIN number in realoem.com and see what the part number for your bike should be, then search for that.

It probably means that the part numbers you quoted are no longer used or available. I did an estimated search and came up with the following:

Part 18122310397 (Muffler) was found on the following K589 vehicles:

K589 K 100 83 (0501,0511) N/A, , Europe (0501) : Exhaust system
K589 K 100 88 (0521) N/A, , Europe (0521) : Exhaust system
K589 K 100 LT 87 (0506,0516) N/A, , Europe (0506) : Exhaust system
K589 K 100 RS 83 (0502,0503,0513) N/A, , Europe (0503) : Exhaust system
K589 K 100 RS 83 (0502,0503,0513) N/A, , Europe (0502) : Exhaust system
K589 K 100 RT 84 (0504,0505,0514) N/A, , Europe (0505) : Exhaust system
K589 K 100 RT 84 (0504,0505,0514) N/A, , Europe (0504) : Exhaust system

Dunno if that is of any help?
