When pulling off the fuel hoses on bottom of tank is it normal for gas to continue coming out of the pump discharge to fuel rail connection?
I understand there's a built-in check valve in the pump but mine will keep flowing gas, siphoning I would guess, unless I either drain the tank down low enough or tilt the tank over to stop it.  I've had the bike since '87 and I've had the tank off countless times and IIRC it would usually dribble a little and then completely stop. It seems this started when I put a used pump in last year so I'm suspecting the check valve is stuck and/or not operating correctly. The pump seems to work fine otherwise.

When I pull the hoses off I always open the filler as that prevents a pressure build up which will force the fuel out.
Othere here place a piece of fuel line from inlet to outlet and so seal the tank off.

I use a Golf tee on each hose as a plug.

Dig your old golf bag out from the shed, plenty there.

I seen on youtube - start the engine and whilst running disconnect the fuel pump connector behind the right hand side panel and after a couple of seconds the engine stops coz there is no fuel getting through and all the pressure is used up.

goto about 2 minutes into the vid
