I want to change the red lens on the low fuel light on my K75 to an amber lens (I'm assuming all of the coloured lenses on the warning lights in K series instruments are the same). I'm used to low fuel being amber on my K1100 and the red spooks me when it pops on on the K75.

Does anyone have one to give away, swap or sell? Probably in that order.

Thanks

I think if you put a yellow bulb in there you'll get orange. Is that close enough? T10 yellow LED maybe.
I've bought LED's from these guys but from Honkers via Ebay would be cheaper I think.

If properly balanced, red and green make yellow but if the balance is out you'll get brown. You could try one of the green indicator bulbs in there and see what comes out. I'd guess a dirty brown.

If you put an amber LED behind a red lens then it will be orange-ish.  However, since the wavelengths of red and yellow light are different it will not glow as brightly as a red lens mostly lets red light through..

I did that for the cruise control indicator I have on my turbo K75.  It is not as bright but that's what I wanted so that it's visible in daylight but not too bright at night.

Green LED behind red lens:  Not really visible as the wavelengths of the red lens and green LED are farther apart.

Thanks Duck. That may do the trick as I just want to move the colour away from the Red which means "trouble" to me.

Cheers

Hi all, the BMW riding friends network has come through again and solved my yen for an amber lens for the low fuel light on my K75.

It worked like this; went for a charity fund raising ride and ran into an old mate who I hadn't run across for a while (on his almost mint condition R90S no less) and at the end of the ride we got to yarning about rides we have had in recent years. One he had recently was with his brother, who also rides airhead R models, down to Tasmania and back and took in the classic races at Phillip Island on the way. Young brother had charging problems when at Phillip Island so was directed by a fellow BMW owner to look up a guy at Frankston (near Melbourne for non Oz readers). This guy had quite a range of bits and was very knowledgable on BM parts and had the necessary rotor for the R bike.
My mate fishes a card out of his wallet with a phone number and says "give him a go if you want bits". One quick phone call later I have an amber lens for my low fuel light. Ain't the BM life grand!

Cheers
