You guys might enjoy this conversation.....

I'm looking for a set of clip-ons. I know the forks are 41.3mm

7/8 is 22.25 mm. May not appear like much of a difference but 7/8 won't work.

Hi, what is the outside diameter of the bars? I see where they clip onto the forks is 41mm but I need to see if my grips/tubes suit the bars.

I had a similar one a while ago when I asked 7/8 or 22mm and it repeated the dimensions states like width hight drawback and as for "7/8 or 22mm I do know not wat you mein"   I gave up and found some bars in Australia and they didn't cost much more.

I am finding that E bay is moving away from being a good place to get good prices too.

I bought some ebay clip ons which were 41mm at the fork and 22mm on the bar.

I very gently tapped them onto the forks with a rubber mallet and used a single layer of drinks can wall to shim out the controls. the rubber grips seemed to fit fine.

All good and nothing moves.

Edit: so the 41mm clip-ons for over the forks with some gentle persuasion.

Secondly you need to shim the 22mm bars to fit the grips/tubes/controls?

That's the one. It probably added about an hour to the fitting of the bars. No big deal.

if you mean the short one coming from the top of the stem (odd BMW design), it just about reached. Which I suppose is a good thing as it stopped me setting the clip ons at a ridiculously impractical (but cool looking) angle.

the trees and forks stayed as they were and I just fitted the clip ons under the top yoke.

I've had a look through but there isn't anything particularly clear. I would have taken one specially, but the bike is laid up at home at the mo with a blown fork seal.

this is the best I've got.

By the looks, you brake line is MUCH longer than mine.  I may need to assess whether a change is really necessary before I go and buy new bars (as it will mean a new hose will need to be made).

Greenhorn,

After placing the clip-ons on, what has been your experience? Difficulties turning? Do they bump into the tank when turning? Was there any need for extensions?  

Curious in knowing. I am in the process of wanting to install some clip on on my K75, but before I venture into the journey I wanted to ask someone who had already done it and their riding experience.

I got 7/8 and sanded the right down by hand. Works fine.
Couldn't even get the slider on before sanding.
Ebay seller also.
Lucky they were ally tube type.

experience with the clip on has been mixed. 

on the plus side, they look cool as hell, and I do like the more direct steering you get.

on the minus side, the slow speed manoeuvring has taken a bit of a hit. the bike is more unstable at walking pace and a u turn is quite tricky, feet up. also the combination of big bike and low bars means a really long stretch. I'm 6'4" and am ok but I reckon much shorter and you'd struggle. Lastly, running bar end mirrors makes the bike annoyingly wide for filtering.

The bars are totally adjustable so I have them set so they stop just short of the tank on full lock.

I'm thinking of swapping them out for some flat tracker bars in order to make it a bit more comfy and improve the slow speed handling and filtering capabilities if anyone is interested in a set of nearly new clip ons.

Don't get me wrong, for bombing about with they're fine, but given the amount of commuting I do through heavy traffic, not really practical.
