Okay I have made it to the part where I put the lines back onto the throttle bodies. I have a few questions
1: the regulator in the back has a small vacume line that runs to the rear most carb's suction pin, the other 3 carbs have this capped off? correct

2: the pressure sensor in the rear just to the left of the regulator has a thin line on it as well, this line connects to the forward most carb's pin sticking out forward, much like a T where the carb is the -- and the | is where the line connects to? correct

other then these 2 connections that im unsure about, im about to lay the electronics on top of this thing and see if she will come back to life

Im sorry if this question seems simple, I just honestly cannot remember.
thanks
Phil

I think I figured it out, in fact, got it running today. Have a serious problem with the fuel pump, instead of putting fuel out the outlet, its blasting fuel out around the crimped area, so I tightened down the crimp sections just a bit, and that helped enough to start the bike but im going to have to go with an alternative for now, as well as get a new fan for her.

I think that you may not have connected your pressure regulator correctly or maybe reversed the fuel filter(The direction of the flow is indicated on the filter). Here is a couple of pictures.

thank you, I did end up getting that correct. had another problem, fuel pump was shot, seals went bad, tried fixing that but frustration led to a 100 buck aftermarket fix, that is a little larger then the mustang version and should make for a perfect fit with some modfications.

found another problem after getting it started, #2 valves are not sealing, valve shims are too big.

Other then starting to fix that issue, should the engine have a hot feel to it? temp probe im using showed the fan comming on at 200deg F. which seems normal. but im just wondering... maybe I can get a phone number with someone from here to talk to. Frustration is mouning then I get happy, then i get more let down by something new.

Im on my way to the store right now to get the bent feeler gages, the straight ones I have are too dificult to work with in the confined space. ive already dropped the spacers out and need to get the new measurements for the new ones.

Sorry If I seem noobish about all of this, I was originally faced with sell the parts on ebay, drag it behind a truck down a gravel road, or fix it. I am doing my best, but its not good enough I fear.

Talking about adjusting the vaves:

Here is a schematic of a tool to push the valve down.

thank you Bert Smile, I really like that.
but I fixed the problem that was keeping it from running corectly, got new plugs, not the fix
new plug wires, not the fix(temporary wires for testing, still 26bucks)
still going to do a tad bit of work on the valves, I dont like what ended up happening with #2 intake, I didnt have it seated correctly, and it mashed the cap made me sad.

the fix,
here it comes

that damn little hose between the breather and the crankcase.
you know the one. its behind the throtle bodies.
about an inch or so round, I didnt have the right hose, but I put one on after learning that it ran great with my finger covering the hole.

one little hose I didnt have, but planned on buying after I got it running was the only thing keeping it from running in the first place.....

but its beautiful now, going to pull the valve cover<had a leak on it anyway, and recheck the valve clearances once more and consider pulling the camshaft out and replacing that cap/shim combo, but after I got it all back together ended up with 11.5:1 or so compression.

still really smokey, may be due to the new rings, which I was told to expect.

but I am so happy it runs, and the problem was just the fact that the intake vacuum was bypassing the flow meter, and comming in through that little hole......

so, some last parts in the blaster, and I can put the tripple tree on, and I can start, doing the finishing work while waiting on valve parts or magic....
I dont really want to pull the timming cover, maybe ill end up lucky
with good clearance after its run some, I think I may have too tight a fit right now, that will lead to issues in my 10k mile goal.

and I did pretty good on my calculus 2 test.

What is the most important? the calculus 2 test or the bike?
Congrat on the calculus. I know that this is not as fun stuff as working on the K100 but later it will pay the bills.

cheers cheers

This little hose can cause a lot of problems. Over the years, it has the tendency to crack.

okay, I was able to sand down the od of the #2 intake valve shim, and then I hand lapped it down to end up with .004 clearance, not the quite the .006 needed but I believe it should be enough.(IM sick and tired of lapping for the moment, those shims are hard hard hard). I didnt do a full clearance check on the remaining shims however, I did a min/max check and things were just fine. only thing that remains now is to put a little goo on the rubber gromets and put the cover back on. and get on with the rest of the rebuilding.

if your wondering why im not being as specific as I should be on the valve shims it is because the bike isnt slightly warm at the moment, and I want to finish letting things settle into place before I become overly picky about stuff. Im trying to keep things as simple as I can for now to avoid the over pondering of simple mistakes I have, can, probably, will, did, make. Engines can be very finiky, and ive almost exceded my budget, I have enough left to finish it up, new rubbers, new helmet(mine I think is 20 years old) and a new jacket. oh yeah, ill probably need a lot more parts from MAX but they are small screws stuff like that, not to mention the seat, Im thinking milk carton, but then the seat height will be a bit over 46" i think, may not be safe that way Smile.

time to study, but im feeling really comfortable about the engine finally.
