Interested in upgrading the forks on my 1986 k100rt to a chunkyer more sub substantial looking setup (this is for aesthetics only, I do not wish to change the geometry of the bike). Does anyone have any experience with this type of mod?

Quite a few have used the Suzuki Hyabusa front end you get a great brake upgrade as well.

From what I hear it is one of the easier but it will limit the steering angle/lock

S1000R, RR & R9T (inverted fork models) share the same steering stem and set of bearings but those bearings differ from every other forked BMW model. Some creativity/science will apply.

I wanted to upgrade to Suzuki GSXR 1000 forks, if you look up a block called Mike Flores, he did it and I think its the perfect fork size for a K100. You can get a plug and play triple tree from Cognito Moto

Another way to go about this is to locate a set of BMW Marzocchi forks, 17" 3 spoke wheel & requisite axle, two-piece mudguard, four pot Brembo callipers and floating 305mm discs from a K1100RS or 16V K100RS (this swap requires a 20mm K11RS master cylinder). While not inverted like modern motos they are more substantial than the F&S, Showa or other stock forks, will slide right in using the same bearing size, lockdown nuts and steering stem diametre, and you will not have changed the rake/trail or wheelbase much (there IS a slight diff) - using anything from Yammie, Kwacka, Suzi & the lot you will not know what you are getting. It could end up handling (more) like a truck or be so steep as to chuck you on yer earhole at the first roundabout. I note that in most articles about 'custom builds' of K bikes, the handling of the bike, while possibly a nice looking profile in glossy magazine or online piccies as compared to stock, is rarely if ever mentioned.
