Hi

I will be replacing the friction plate in my bmw k75.
Beemerboneyard suggests replacing ALL clutch components which can be costly.
How necessary is this and what are the possible consequences/issues if I replace the friction plate and reuse the pressure plates?
All opinions appreciated.

Nothing wrong with using the old ones provided they are flat, occasionally you see them with a dish ant that makes it so they only grab on the outer rim and will slip.

I've replaced just the clutch plate before and had no issues.

What Rick says. It's one of those jobs where you need to dismantle it to find out what you need. Put a straight edge across the pressure plate before thinking about buying a new one.

I replaced only the plate on my RS in 2010 after a leaking o-ring episode which I caught quickly. The rest of the friction surfaces looked good, were relatively flat, and after a thorough cleaning I went ahead with it. For the first couple hundred kilometres I could almost get it to slip at hard revs, but that went away. I thought I'd made a big mistake, but since then I've put 12,000 kms or more on it since, no worries.

Of course, if you replace every clutch wear surface you'll get longer life. It stands to reason. Instead it's like whacking a new set of brake pads on a worn brake disc. She'll be right, mate.
