I came across the corpse of a k1100rs in breakers yard near me. Picked pretty clean at this stage but it had an interesting looking can on the back, which despite the picture, is in reasonably good condition.

Can anyone identify it and would it fit my k100LT?

A picture would make the identification a lot easier.

Looks like a standard K11 to me, also used on the K100RS4V.

I assumed the k1100 was the same square shape as the k100 and that this one being round was an aftermarket.

Would it for fit the K100 and would there be any difference in fit or performance? My own has been repaired a couple of times by previous owners by the looks of it and some of the heat shield retainers for the nuts are gone leaving annoying rattles.

16v models and 1100 models have the round exhaust. Are there any other salvageable parts?

2 bikes there electric_monk, an 84 naked k100 and a 90 k1100rs - well picked over and a lot of parts had been damaged in the wreckless removal of body panels. The engines and final drives were there. Swithches were gone from handlebars. He had a good tank but with a busted lock (locked closed). I may go back to him for the exhaust and the k1100 stand. He said he wasn't going to hold onto them much longer. They're in firstchoice breakers in Aughrim which is near enough to me via back roads. I'll be over ther again, maybe later this week if you want me to look for something specific? PM me your mobile if you do and we can chat.

So would the round k1100 exhaust be any better on the k100 than the standard?

I`ve never tried this, but I`ll guess it could be done with some mods.
Search the net, should be plenty of others that have done this......

It have an other rear support, so this need to be modified...or create your own.
It could be a conflict with the stands, as the 4V & 11 got other stands.
You need 8 longer stud bolts at the exhaust ports.

Also have in mind a quite usual fault at the 4V/11 one piece design is cracked
welds at the collector.
Some have reported that you can avoid/delay this by changing the grommet
at the rear support now and then, as this get worn over time.
(have this in mind as you must mod/make your own rear support).

Another solution would be to get the footrest bridges from a 4V/11,
but then you have to make some mod at fixing points for the Z frames for the
panniers where it is attached to the frame, as these footrest bridges moves
the Z frames wider out.

BTW. the nut retainers for the old exhaust is sold as a separate part.

Check it out for cracks around the collector as there are two types of K1100 pipes the ones that have cracked and the ones that are going to crack.

Thanks for that input guys. I guess there's no such thing as a simple job! The rear footrest bridges are gone off one side of the donor. So for now I'll stick with the stock k100 exhaust.

If you're searching for a nicely designed, not-too-loud exhaust that is round in shape for your K100, then try the UK-made Motad. I've been using one for a coupla years now with great results. Dennis in Tassie has/had one too. I paid about AU$350 shipped to my door from the UK in early 2010. It's a sturdy and tidy system with a slight bit more satisfying burble than stock. The stock K1100 exhaust system weighs far too much in comparo, too.

Here it is on my bike before I swapped to radials.

Yep, I had one for about 6 weeks before I sold the K100. Lovely note, only starts to bark above 4000 rpm, and by that time you're leaving the sound behind. Gives a nice little hit around 3500, doesn't adversely affect fuel consumption and does not increase peak power output, but it does fit up well, looks really clean and modern and saves 4+ kilos in weight. Sold mine but thoroughly recommend them. Motad.com, 8 days delivered to Tassie from Birmingham UK, wicked !

Although the reviews on the Motad are good, my experience with delivery from them was not. I placed an order with them in mid December. They required my credit card info by email which I was a bit reluctant to do, but took a chance. They said they were having production problems due to Christmas break and after many emails, I eventually cancelled my order at the end of January and asked them to destroy my credit card info which they agreed to do. Six or seven weeks had passed without a firm shipping date. I have since repaired my old muffler.

Yep I had a look on their website last night g35. They don't carry stock of the k100 anymore but invite you to request a price and delivery details. I guess they're making to order only.

I've had a Motad on the solo for donkey's years and when I wanted one for the outfit I went to Motad. They were very pleasant people but their promises came to nothing. I eventually bought one from an internet
supplier.......and it was delivered directly from Motad???
