While the other Irish were up in the wee north Very Happy I was out on a trip too.I know there isn't a pic of a K in this, there's not even a road but it is K power at its best cruising along at mid revs.Cornering is a little different too. Sorry about the shake, its from the V twin under the camera not the K in the back Very Happy

Hover K100, The K with no wheels 112350

Why did you need recovering last year? Was it a K problem or something else?

Paul.

er um er, Embarassed Embarassed
a rock jumped out from the river bank and hit me, since then I've discovered that by going a little slower it doesn't frighten them as much and they don't jump. A sequence of events led to a wet ECU so no fuel and a late night recovery., A replacement ECU along with some temporary repairs and we were running again the following day.
See at 1:45 on here
BTW the two larger craft are K100 powered.

It would be nice if you could show us how the K engine is installed and how you propel the blades.

Sidecar Paul, I did have some polite words with the rocks and it seems to have worked as they stayed put on the last trip Very Happy .

I have problems loading up pics onto this site, don't really know why. I'll try again later.

The 1986 K engine is mounted on rubber mounts on the floor of the craft, also one top mount, and is fitted with a centrifugal clutch, this allows the engine to start and tick over without the fan drive engaged. If it was a fixed drive the starter would have to swing the lot to start and any "kick" from the engine starting could break the drive belt. Next there is a short prop shaft with rubber donuts each end driving an oil filled bearing block fixed to the hull and from there drive is transmitted to the fan via 50mm wide toothed belt with approx 4:1 reduction. The fan is tuned to engine hp and allows the engine to rev to just below max revs. There is a Mini rad mounted in front of the main fan to provide cooling, A Mercedes fuel pump draws fuel from a low mounted tank through a suction filter and pumps through a standard BMW fuel filter. The wiring is simplified so that only three wires from the front are needed to run the engine, one to power up the ECU's, one to start it and a ground wire. This is my primary system, a separate loom is used for oil pressure, temp, fuel level etc. All electrics are mounted as high as possible under the engine cover.
88, the noise is a major topic of conversation on hover forums, however in the past few years major changes have taken place in fan design etc. The engine itself is relatively quite, silencing in via a collector 4 into one and into a silencer mounted on the hull. The original K one is considered too heavy to use.
My craft has a V twin 14hp Briggs to drive a lift fan and the noise from this is far more than noise from the K.
BTW the craft featured in a small article in the Sunday Times a couple of weeks back Very Happy

Sorry K=BIKE its not my work, the drive system is manufactured by K&M Products in the UK but I've done quite a few mods to it.
Here is the propshaft from clutch to bottom fan drive bearing. The clutch is contained in the K bellhousingThe K with no wheels K_driv12
