I went for a drive today only 90 miles gave the bike the once over before I left, Oil, Coolant all ok. This afternoon cleaning the bike I noticed that the oil level had dropped from just over the centre spot in the sight glass to just above the lower level, I checked the coolant overflow tank and it was at the same level as when I started, so the oil is probably not in the coolant Where did it go? any suggestions
Pat

I have found that quite often an engine will appear to be using a heap of oil when you give it a long run if it usually gets only short runs. Reason being that fuel does always get past the rings but is usually evaporated of quickly but with a series of short runs the engine will normally use more oil when its cold and the fuel that get past wont have time to evaporate away so they sort of compensate and the level remains static. Then you go for a long ride and the fuel evaporates away thus looking like it has used a heap of oil but if you top it up it doesnt use any more for the trip.
I had a Ford Cleveland 351 many years ago that was very good at that.
My advice is top it up and do another ride of 100miles or so and see what happens.

I couldn't agree more, Rick.......If all else fails, go for a ride.

Also, Pat, make sure that the bike is parked on the same spot if you're checking the oil level. A slight tilt forwards or backwards makes quite a difference to the oil level in the glass.
Just a thought,
Paul.
