This is my obligatory introduction to this fine BMW enthusiasts site.

I have an '85 K100RS (original owner) that I've owned since April 1985. It was purchased in Germany while I was stationed there at Giebelstadt Army Airfield.

I live in Northern Virginia and West Central Florida.

I enjoy reading the technical information and troubleshooting information members post. It's very helpful.

Yes, my K-bike color is Madison metallic. I'll post a picture once I start to work on the bike. It's been sitting in my garage for the past ten years. I'm going to start a complete restoration. It sustained some damage when the center stand failed. The center stand foot failed due to wear and rust. It's important to inspect your center and side stands regularly on an old bike.

I'm going to add the K 1100 RS lower fairing kit as well as the side covers. I'm also upgrading to three spoke wheels. I think it'll give it an updated look.

I'm also going to do some upgrades such as headlight relays and heated grips. I'm thinking about upgrading the lighting to LEDs, but I've read that it might cause issues for the BMU. I need to do some more research.

I'm collecting extra fairing/painted parts so when I do the repaint I'll have some spares if I happen to have another mishap. I've noticed the parts are very reasonable on eBay.

Madison metallic is a nice colour. My '84 RT has been sprayed that colour at some point. 
Ref the 3 spoke wheel conversion. Do a search on the forum as there is plenty of advice on the pros and cons of doing it.

I thought Madison Metallic was the best choice of the paint colors offered in 1985 for the K RS. There were other special colors that weren't listed as options. Madison Metallic has a slight blue to blue green tint. The dealership in Germany,  Motorradhaus Ebert in Höchberg, had a more silver metallic K100RS in the showroom, but they indicated that it was a special limited version from the factory that couldn't be ordered. I had to order my bike, because I needed a USA version.

Comberjohns K is Madison and its a lovely colour.....I just noticed he beat me to it...

Welcome to the scene. Consider the K1100 style center stand, it's easier to use and also corrects the lean problem. I have just put one on my RT and really like it.   

As for 3-spoke rims, good luck. I just happened onto a nice pair on E-bay a few months back. They are hard to come by. The front rim (4-bolt disks) was limited to just the '93 K75S model, and after that BMW changed the front end. The later rims (6-bolt disks) are also scarce as many an early RS owner have upgraded their bikes with them. There is a wrecker in Ohio that has some 3-spoke rims, but on the expensive side IMO.

I just upgraded my bike with heated grips, and it cost about $700 to go the OEM route. Some people here have suggested after-market as cheaper and more reliable, so consider hunting around to save.

On the cheap side, consider a Phillips X-Treme Vision that produces 100% more light, but is an 60/55w OEM replacement, so no need for headlamp relays, etc. I just installed one and the light is very bright and a nice shade of white.

How so?  The main bracket that the center stand and side stand mount to are the exact same part (as in same part number - 46522311150) for 2V and 4V bikes.


I have a K1100 center stand on my K75 and it leans just as much as any other "K75.

I've purchased most of the parts new that I need before they became NLA, hard to find and very expensive. I've been collecting parts for years.

I've got the BMW heated grips, Staintune stainless exhaust, 1100 RS fairing, three spoke wheel set, additional gauges, center stand and a lot of other parts.

I've never liked the stock exhaust, because of the rattle and the heat-shield mounts always broke. I went to a black ceramic coated Luftmeister exhaust back in '87. It was a good exhaust, but has become cosmetically challenged. I got the three spoke wheels while they were still available from US dealerships as two valve upgrade accessories. I wish I had known that I could have upgraded to the 1100 center stand. If so, I wouldn't have purchased the original style. The 1100 stand looks to be a better design than the original.

I'm also going to alter my tank to accept the newer style float system. I've got a number of upgrades planned.

The sidestand on the 2V's got a small kink allready from factory, on the 4v's the sidestand is straight.
But the difference in leaning angle is rather small, just a couple of ^o I would Guess.

Yep, +1 on this, Inge !
Maybe, in AJ's case, the old sidestand was wearing out on the pivot and, after mounting the straight new one, the difference to him was significant?!

Oh yes! The axle bolt was worn and the sidestand wobbled a bit at the joint. That could account for some additional lean I experienced.
