Last autumn my headlight glass fell victim to a flying stone. I taped it up at the time & haven't been running the bike over the winter.
Unfortunately the MOT test looms so I need to replace the glass.
I see MotorWorks list separate glass lenses for K100RTs like mine so I suppose I need to speak to them.
My questions are :-
How much fairing needs to come off to access the headlight ?
How easy is it to change the glass ?

Thangyewverrymuch.

Hi ShedBob. Welcome to the forum. According to the BMW workshop manual, to remove the RS, RT and LT headlight it says 'remove the fairing'. It says that a lot. Also, check out the copy of the Haynes manual in the Downloads section.
Its not too difficult. Take your time and keep all the bits and pieces safe.
You can buy a new lens for the headlight or buy a complete unit for a similar price on ebay. There are a few on there at the minute for about £25 plus postage. No fiddling about with seals and a used headlight is either cracked or it isn't.
I have picked up a few bits and pieces for my LT on ebay. Tubular fork brace for 99p? Brand new Comfort seat in the box for £94?

Doncha just love those well-intentioned workshop manuals that suggest that all you have to do to make a repair is to simply 'Park motorbike on centre stand, remove negative battery cable, fix problem, ride away.'
Too bloody easy! If only I knew that beforehand.

Well Scabs the mighty K100 is back togather & looking lovely with his new headlamp glass.
£15 2nd hand from Motorworks. Bargain. Was a bit mucky so I ran it through the dishwasher with the breakfast things when wife was out at work.
Biggest hassle was removing the top half of the fairing.
You can tell the BMW car guys collaborated on the K series. Everything is held together with self tappers & speed nuts. Horrible !
Still I took the chance to clean out some of the Arabian sand my Dad got in there when the bike was new.
Lovely ! Hope it lasts another 25yrs.
