My 84 K100RT blows quite a bit of smoke when its first started after sitting a week or so on the centre stand. It eventually clears up when its warm, and it doesn't seem to be using any oil to speak of. My first thought is that the throttle bodies may need balancing, but are there any other suggestions? Its done 127000 km.

Keeping the oil level above the centre dot when the engine is not running?

dead on the centre dot when not running, and returns to there after.

Probably, but wouldnt it also use oil when warmed up an running if the rings were worn?

In any case, I'm not worried about it enough to do any major engine work, just wondering if there is a common cause.

Maybe I should also add that the idle when its cold and the choke is on is a bit "lumpy", but smooths out when its warm.

I think the amount of oil needed to blow billows of smoke from a cold engine is actually very little.

You will probably find it is using oil (where else can it come from?), but the amount is negligible and is not noticed through the round window.

You are probably right. I think I'll just balance the throttle bodies, slap some new plugs in it and live with it. Somewhere I have a new set of injectors, so they might go in as well if I can find them.
