I am trying (Still) to get my 85 K up and running. I have been using the electrical references here to diagnose the problem and I think the problem is in the starter switch. I have taken it apart and cleaned it, checked all of the grounds and cleaned all connections. The actual green button had broke with the previous owner and he put a small screw in place of the button which worked for him. Now that I have the bike when the switch is touched the tail lights, head light, speedo, cut on and off. I have tested the actual wires and everything seems to be in good order up until you connect the starter control then all goes wrong. Trying just to get the bike running is draining my bank account and was wondering if there is anyway to use a different switch or to bypass it so I can continue testing the rest of the electrical?

The lights going off is the function of the load shed relay and indicates it is working properly.  Do you have the clutch lever pulled in and the bike in neutral?

Try bump starting your bike.  If you have a dead spot in the starter this may move the armature past that spot and it may work.
Cleaning your starter might just fix your problem.  Regardless, take at this link http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech.shtml   Cleaning the starter can be found here

It might be in your best interest to purchase a used right hand switch assembly and replace it.
