A big thank you to crazy frog and robmack.    
 Following your excellent info, schematics and tutorials on the fitment of an electric windshield to a K 100, Big Red now has a new look! Used parts in very good condition were acquired and a logic circuit constructed using 10amp solid state relays. It worked perfectly first time   I managed to do it all in one enjoyable evening of burning my fingers on the soldering iron (only once),and finishing off with a nice cold brew!!                              So here's to you guys!

had 1 on an fjr1300
put it up and hide behind it when cold and rainy, let it down when hot out, find that sweet quiet spot on the highway.
i'm sure you found it well worth the $$ and effort.

Less than $200 cash, and very enjoyable effort

I remember riding for 4 days under heavy rain, and it was the first time that the wet weather didn't bother me.
You may want to experience with few adjustments.....
When the shield goes up and down, the angle is changing. (It doesn't go up straight up but tilts forward when raising).
By tweaking the angle of the shield with the addition of spacers you can obtain the optimum comfort. A difference of few degrees may reduce the buffering (It all depends of your height).
I also installed a taller aftermarket one and I cut it to fit my height.

A couple of good tips there cf. I'll put a few miles on her and see if I should add some spacers.
Now all I need to do is find a place to relocate my fuel & temp gauges that were up on top of the dash panel. I was thinking of making a couple of blanking plates and mounting the gauges in them in the radio speaker location. I also need to find a convenient place to put the 12v aux outlet for my gps, maybe next to the map light & rocker switches on new dash.

I got a chance to really check out the functionality of the new screen on a trip to Oklahoma City a couple of days ago. (250mile roundtrip)
The day started out lovely and cool, partly cloudy. I entered the turnpike,
and brought Big Red up to cruising speed (80mph) and really enjoyed the
airflow over the lowered shield.   About 45miles later I noticed a wall of DARK clouds a couple of miles ahead and all the traffic coming from that direction had their headlights on. I slowed to 70, and then it hit! Just immediate pouring rain. Shield up fully and --- WOW!  I was in a bubble of dry space behind the excellent LT fairing . Continuing on I burst out of the other side of the storm about 10 min later only slightly damp around the edges.     
 On to my friends house in the city whose BMW R75/5 needed some TLC after sitting in his yard for two years due to an illness ,(friend not bike).
We replaced the battery and the fuel lines, and in the process noticed that somehow water had gotten into the intake and had been sitting in the left side carb and behind the intake valve in the head.  So we took out the spark plugs and cranked over the engine. thankfully it turned over. It blew water out the plug holes for a couple of turns.
We left it to dry out over lunch and then sprayed the inside of the cylinder with WD40. The carbs need attention because of the water sitting behind the throttle plates causing corrosion on the bore.

So, carbs packed and back off to Tulsa.
beautiful day, shield down, got passed by the hwy patrol on the turnpike doing 80 so I followed about a half mile back bringing BR up to 89mph for about an hour. This bike can RUN! was a job to keep her under 90!
Back in Tulsa, Quick check, used no oil. everything good Really satisfied with the mods to screen. just lovely!
