I've got a total system shut down (engine and instrument cluster indicators) when I engage the hand brake or if I lean the bike to one side or the other. In fact, even if the engine is not on and the key is not even in the ignition...when I straddle the bike and lean it to one side or the other, the clock goes off. When I bring the bike back to vertical, the clock slowly fades back on.

This first started happening right after I cleaned the wire contacts for the brake light - the contact going into the rear brake light assembly and the one connecting to the hand brake.

Any help would be helpful. Thanks so much!

Just sounds like a dodgy earth connection to me. Have a look at the main frame earth, and there is another one underneath the tank just forward of the relay box. Something must be a bit loose, I can't see how you have done any damage with your cleaning, but have been wrong before.

I'd +1 on RT there and check to see if the battery is moving about.

So...a year plus later...after other priorities taking place of my K100...I finally took the bike to a motorcycle mechanic buddy of mine. He found that the ignition switch needed some serious cleaning...not maintaining good contact. He gave it a good service and the problem has not returned. Now onto other K100 issues that have popped up...which I will post with another title.
