Hello,
Would like to have your advise concerning upgrading the H4 light bulb to Bi-Xenon.
Do you recommend this or not?
Where do I install the ballast and CAN bus compatible controller.
Space is kinda restricted in the upper fairing.

Not sure what you want to install, the K1100 has no can-bus.
Your old headlight connector goes to the load, and from the load to the new HID.
It's a small case, fits in every little space in the upperfairing.

Something like this is all you need;
Upgrade K1100RS headlamp to HID (Xenon lights) 1.0x0

Wheeldigger,

That is exactly what I intend to install, the Street Pilot Bi-Xenon. I know K1100 don't have CAN bus, but the Xenon light comes with a can bus compatible controller.
Don't think this is an issue.
Can't figure out where I should install the controller and the ballast.
Away from the Motronic ICU/FCU, that's for sure.
Does it affect the Instument cluster (reading of Speedo end Taccho meter) as it might produce an electromagnetic field interfering with the coils of intruments.

I don't recommend it at all. You would need the correct reflector and lens so the low beam dips to the correct part of the road.
The light source in HID is about the size of a marble and the H4 is the size of a grain of rice. The light will not reflect from the OEM headlight correctly and as a result you appear to oncoming traffic as a very bright high beam. Would you like that.
I have upgraded 2 Ks to a High light output H4 globe (Narva H4 Plus 120) and along with a relay installation the difference is truly amazing.
The Headlight needs a relay in each circuit as the wires are to thin to get good voltage at the globe and the switch is not capable of carring the high current for sustained periods without damage occuring due to heat.

Ok,
I'll leave this Xenon upgrade as it is, don't want to permanently strike my fellow road users with blindness.
What about heat dissipation  of the NARVA H4 plus 120 bulbs?
Do I need to replace the lamp socket with a ceramic fitting?

RicK G,

Is there a circuit diagram available, how to connect the relays?
What type of relay do you suggest?

Guys,

I think we can close my topic, I found a similar post on the forum. With all info concerning type of relay to be used and Circuit diagram

My money is on Comberjohn's post above. I tested mine with 160/130W H4 and the light is excellent. Forget LEDs altogether, useless.

There was a conversion done to a HID unit but it involved rebuilding the headlight with a new reflector inside the original one. Its on the forum but not sure where.....have a feeling it was in fact Bikerboy. Even if that works you have a lot of work to do it.

The relay/bulb upgrade is a much more user friendly option.
