Being somewhat short in the leg department I am finding I am unstable on my toes..particularily stopped or on inclines...does not feel good...especially with traffic and side winds. Does anyone have experience with lowering the suspension? If so perhaps forward some directions, experience and/or direct me to another link on same subject. Thanks.

There is a couple of options:
-You can rise your fork tubes by about 1/2 (slide them up in the tees)
-You can install a tire with a lower profile
More expensive options are to buy a low seat and a different shock. I have an Ohlins shock on my K75 and you can adjust the height. Be ready to pay a $1000 for something like this.

Hi Bluenose, I think the cheapest option to start with would be to have the seat re-upholstered.

There are many articles on the web about having seats modified for shorter riders without reducing the comfort and it is less expensive than a complete replacement.

I have a feeling mine has had that done and is therefore too low for me. IMO a good first step without effecting steering geometry. I would be interested in a measurement of the seat to ground height while on the centrestand of your bike just for comparison.

BMW made a standard lowered seat I believe it is the one called a slide on seat. To use it one needs a bit of kit to be installed to mount it but it really does lower the seat height. Although I am over 6'3" when I bought my K100RS ex Japan the previous owner had fitted a lower seat. I find it fine and will probably stick with it as the lower the C of G the better to my mind (I have been wrong sometimes and I might be here) but intuitively the lower down I can get my body mass the better it would seem to be.
