I cut the rubber mounts off the seat mounts tonight and looks as though they will fit up all ok

just a couple of holes to drill ,,in the right places

Mine just gets a hose down every now and then and a spray of carnauba wax over the plastics maybe once or twice a year.

Darn riding season here ends on 31st December and begins on 1st January. We don't get enough time off road to do that sort of thing. But the results are amazing.

haven't got a big enough power supply for the current draw , so current limiting the little supply with a couple of globes in series , voltage should rise as the sacrificial anode clags up with crud

Put 240 volts into it Charlie... clear all the cobwebs quickly.

an update













still some embedded rust in there after drying out , perhaps it needs  a lot more hours in the solution to rid the rust ...ill give it a re-bath ..

so it all rolls on

rush job up north  so the fame I put back in the toxic mix on Sunday , got pulled out again on Monday lunch time
it didn't look too bad at that time , but was concerned that leaving it uncovered for almost a week or so would take its toll

and it did







I cant tell you how disappointed I was


oh well nothing for it ....but to grind it all back and go again on this section

I have coated the some of the tricky to get at areas with rust converter , just to stabilize it
and have worked that crack in the bridge section back into place

ill tape over the crack , ready for welding later , when I can get it done

yeah still lots of things to try and get
perhaps funkity  has a couple of bits  that would be useful
inner fairing part plastic  the one below is for the left side as a sample  .... I need a right hand side one



and maybe a screen for the rs fairing  (getting pretty ambitious I know ) ...without broken plastic mount parts

mine has 5 out of 6 cracked or non existant ....lol  but I can work around that ...

the list is big mate , including a wiring harness + relay box ( no relays required ) for any version of 8 valve k100  that is in reasonable shape

I had attempted to get a well priced loom out of blighty  care of ben kingham but the freight cost was a blinder  so that fell through pretty quick .unfortunately

if it can happen ...even getting it to newie ...would be a great start

I have the suspicion that gaz will indeed be already loaded up with goodies heading north

perhaps if it made it to toms place ..that would be a great start .

I intend this year to attempt to have a break over Christmas when I might be able to travel some ...visit the grand kids in Sydney etc ...but call in to newie on the way south ..or north again ..

after another big week at the workplace
got a chance this afternoon to lay a coat of colour to the Underside of the old frame

I think its showing some promise after all

will be at least 12 hours before I can hang it up in the rafters again







bloomin auto rotate has done the job again on the pics

second coat... and far more even coverage going on

in the early sunlight this morning .. frighteningly almost orange - scarlet appearance

but looks good to me

Nice work there Charlie - pity it'll be mostly hidden from view...unless you are taking the bike beyond naked and adopting the skeletal look??

As for the extra 5kph....the redder it gets, the faster you will appear to be travelling away from the traffic behind you, but for maximum effect, you need to paint the front of the frame blue to make it look like you are approaching traffic faster too. Get it right, and I reckon you'll be doing at least 10kph when standing still! 

Charlie - thinking back to the start of your resto project, what did you use to get your engine block so clean and shiny (apart for a great deal of elbow grease, blood, sweat and tears?).

You have inspired me to have a crack at my sorry old donor bike and see what I can do to cheer her up a bit this winter.

pretty much just degreaser ,  a few good brushes , a power drill with cup type brush wheel ,( I find a drill speed controller works particularly well for that,  to keep the revs down )   all just to clean off the muck

crankcases etc  required old fashioned sanding block and appropriate papers .

the timing cover will need to come off again , to install a new cam chain tensioner , when the funds come along ...but no real big hurry on that , just yet .

..yeah black finger nails  are a good part of it

but a word of warning ...I recon you should find a good hand cleaner real quick paul

Red frame looks killer.

Took my new baby on her first real outing today. A good 20 hours just to get her legal and feeling safe. She really has only one obvious problem left, which funny enough was something that was working...the starter.

But I'm almost glad it went on the fritz, since I now see how easy it is to bump start these beasts.

In about 10 days I've

Changed oil and coolant.
New Clutch cable
New tires
File down and lube a battered throttle cam
Get blinkers, running lights and temp gauges working.
Got a first start on the grunge.

Ride impressions. I ride alot off-road on KTM and GG trials bikes. No street bike since my GS750 which I retired in about 85. But I really rode that thing alot, so it's at least one point of comparison

Ride position is quite "bent". It's fine but I might cramp on a long ride. Pirelli scorps are incredible to me. Great grip even brand new. Very smooth and effortless to lean. It was blustery which moved me around alot more than the bike. It's pretty stable.

It purrs like a gold wing at 42mph. At 60, as you guys know, the buzz is going in bars and pegs, at 5500 it's coming straight up my crotch. But 4k does not feel so bad if you have been zipping around in the higher revs.

It reminds me of the R50 MINI, which does have a buzz, while the R53 has a balancer on the flywheel and no buzz. (I have both right now) Now I remember why I always hated motorcycle mirrors, just enough buzz to make it hard to ID cars at a distance.

I was braced for the "dive" in braking, but maybe all that time on bad suzuki suspension prepared me: brakes seem excellent and very easy to feather.

Running around town the bike is very sweet. Lots of power way down low in 2nd and 3rd. I'm going to have to name her....Angela Merkal?
