I'm just in the process of replacing my fuel lines.

I cut a cross section slice through the BMW fuel line and then went shopping at the local auto stores (plural)

I checked all the fuel injection hoses available to me, and none were as good a quality as the BMW in terms of the thread count of the sandwiched webbing. FYI.
I ordered factory lines

So long as it will take the pressure and is suitable to be imersed in fuel all should be OK

you will find that the local auto store is unlikely to have the right fuel lines for intank installation anyhow moto ...i have yet to find one ....

in tank you would need sae 30r10 (rated for imersion in unleaded fuels ) most only carry 30r8 or worse, which is only rated for external to tank and not for unleaded fuel at all ....external lines of 30r9 are useable

you can soon tell if the rating is not up to spec as the lines are wiffy ....meaning you get a strong smell of fuel weeping through the pores of the rubber...

I ordered the fuel lines from MAXBMW.
Once they have arrived and have been fitted, that will conclude my first go-around with the RS.

Clutch splines lubed, Swing arm and clutch rubber replaced. Oil changed in tranny, and final drive.

Oil/water pump re-built

New air filer and fuel lines

New (used) radiator and hoses

Tyres

Plastics repaired and painted.

I'm headed towards the throttle bodies, but not until I have ridden the bike for a few thou.

All work and no....

Ooh 30r10 I must remember that one, when I next visit the Auto parts store if thats a no go its off to the Bayerische motoren Wizard behind the counter or the interwebberised equivalent there of.

even when mounted in the critical areas

I like to do such reparings only once

You're singing my song - I want to ride, not repair (well not too much anyway).

For such a small saving in my view it is not worth buying non genuine parts because not only are the fuel pipes exposed to fuel on the inside (and fuel on the outside as well for the in tank ones), they have to withstand 36psi if the regulator is working and up to 60psi if it fails shut (unlikely I know). The thought of a burst fuel line outside the tank spraying the bike and rider with high pressure fuel whilst riding is not a pleasant thought. Good on you for making the safe choice.

Not so "unlikely" as you might think K Bike - it happened on my K100 and caused me many months of grief :|

Good point krambo good job you did not get a burst line and huge fireball. It all goes to show how checking the basics like electricity getting through and fuel pressure can pay big dividends when a machine is playing up. I know that in the past like many I guess I have done the wild flailing around throw parts at it thing rather than methodically working through step by step.

Just want to add another dimension to this thread. I thought I would change my fuel filter, 2 years after fitting, including internal fuel lines. I was assured by the seller that the line was fuel immersible

I wish I had found this thread before I bought the 30r14t2 lines from Repco in Toowoomba. They have melted in the tank overnight.

Apparently so. I read that further up the thread. The wonderful chap at Repco swore they were the right stuff.   Oh well. I know better now. What is the penalty for tying up a sales clerk with fuel hose covered in black goo and beating them with a large spanner???????

Make sure you have NBR/NBR written on it for use inside the tank!
Otherwise you’ll have a disaster inside the tank.

I have a metre of the OEM hose in my spares assortment, part number 16 12 1 180 040, and I reckon it cost me well over $20 from the local Beemer shop, even with my ex-employee discount! It's emblazoned with NBR and 8x13 all down the side. I've just checked realoem.com and they're showing it listing for above $25. I suppose for the hassle if you've got a local dealer it might be worth getting from them - that is, if it doesn't cost twice as much, as it typically does, Down Under.

I'll be home mid-September so if anyone wants to be beaten with cheaper but correct rubber fuel hose lemme know. I've got a duffel full of spares accumulating - 70lb (32kilo) weight limit.

I chased the SAE30 R10 hose locally and the only place I could get it was Autobarn. Special order $100.00 Au per metre. I ended up getting a metre of Ebay from SA for $50.00 Au per metre. A one metre length gives me enough to do three hose changes and works out to under $17.00 per change. Well, AU$100 is currently US$74, so there's your added (padded) margin over what it costs here. I always hated that when living home and having to buy even the basics. The tyranny of distance, and to paraphrase, economy of scale at work.

I understand that businesses need to make a profit. However I refuse to be blatantly be ripped off, and will go overseas when I have to.
