Agreed Woodie! Thank you all for the great breakfast, enjoyable conversation and camaraderie. I appreciate that you were able to wait until I arrived (amazing considering that I was able to cross the border on an expired passport).

TWB and I made good time on the 407ETR avoiding lots of congestion on the other highways, which compensated for a later than desired start to the journey.

Looking forward one day to another similar meetup; who knows.

Spanish, Ontario was the stopping point tonight after considerable roadworks along highway 17. I don't mind this at all. I will drift off to the sound of clop clopping of water against the dock. Today's ride was under 650 kilometres all up.

Agreed, a very good meeting. Thanks to all who participated, and to .75 for getting us through Youngstown and the gateway to Canada.

Rats, I missed the sKroll. Here I am working in NYC. If I was at home in Michigan instead, I could've still had time to catch up. Nice to see the photos of the meet ups.

Was great meeting everybody.  Sorry to hear that Bocutter Ed has been sidelined with a broken wrist.  Wish I could be doing that trip over the lakes.  Wonderful scenery.

Amazing that Wawa was road inaccessible until 1960!
Next stop, White River, home of Winnie the Pooh. I am not making that up. The sign as you enter town says "Where it all began."

Great to see that lineup of K's and smiling faces in front of the Mug & Musket.

A special mention for that famous "Special K" of Robmac's down the end - nice to see it in a real life scenario.

Those sort of meet ups are what we in Oz thrive on & I think the Eccentrics in Ireland as well.

Well done!

Cheers

For some perspective, if all the water in Lake Superior could cover both North & South America entirely, it would be 30cm (1 foot) deep...

You're telling me!! and I was parked next to it. I can only imagine how much work it actually took to bring that project all together.  All I did was a bit of cleaning, painting and replace a few parts on mine and that was my winter and well into spring.  There is so much detail on that bike that can't even be seen until you are up close.

This was the first time that I have met people on the internet and then in person. Thinking about it.... I came to the conclusion that it is like a picture of a spectacular place it just is not the same as seeing it. I have heard that people tend to be something that they are not on the inter-web and in this case that is true. The men I met Wednesday are far more interesting and talented than I would have guessed.

I too would like to get together again, possibly on the north shore of Superior the second week of August 2019?

Welcome to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. It's Texas, Kansas and Nebraska all rolled into one. At least the Trans-Canada speed limit is 110kph here - and drivers ignore it willfully. I thought Ontario's 90kph was never gunna end.

There are almost as many blowflies as OZ, too.

Tent is up in Brandon, MB. What a blast the last hour and a half was as the red orb dropped lower in the sky ahead of me, haze from smokey fires keeping it aglow. Must be the latitude because still, at half past eight there's plenty of daylight left. Summer Solstice was nearly two months ago...

It's the little things, but I have been either too late for LCBO or The Beer Store (it's called that) or the town has no bar, often due to the proximity of a res, in my estimation, that I have not had a coldie since entering Canada. Well, I fixed that. A mere 300 metres from my campsite in Brandon Manitoba I am blowing the froth off this fine red ale.

What? You went the speed limit across Ontario?  Shocked  No wonder it took you two days to get to the other side of the province.  If you need a small bit of twisty variation then check out the all too short run through the Qu'Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan.  Years ago I was hanging out with two cousins who decided to race each other through there.  I was in the passenger seat of the Camaro and we were duking it out with the the GS1100.  That was my first introduction to drifting.  Those prairie boys know how to go fast

Oh, no, Darren knows what rules are made to be broken. It's just that one has to keep a keen eye out for the local constabulary. I tailed local number plates and went round them when they were too slow. It was three days and two nights across as I sight saw, as well.

Smoke haze from BC wildfires, visibility about a kilometre, refreshing heavy rain for a coupla hours, and gusty winds from the north, meant frequent lane changes whether I wanted them or not! In Lethbridge AB for the night.

It's three weeks today since I left Tacoma. I've covered over 10,500 km or 6,500 miles so far and have 1066 km or 662 miles to go before I sleep (in my own bed).

Amazing effort Dazza. Thanks for taking us along.
Good to see you have warm, if slightly wild weather.

Lucky your not riding Central Vic today - 10C, wet, windy, snow down to 500m.

(I know the Youngstown crew will think that's almost tropical.)

Stay safe. D

Sometimes riding is my own version of self abuse, but I press on regardless. I've learnt, over the years, to make easier the difficulties by preparing myself physically and mentally for the challenge, having a solid and reliable mount under me, and relaxing into what I cannot change when it inevitably comes. Here I am on what was planned as my last day out, with eleven hours to go, a lady at home urging me on soothingly, and I'm stopping and looking about, clearly I will not be home tonight. My life will be there when I arrive at the garage door.

The intensity of the smoke made me change course. I dropped into Famous Potatoes and am steaming towards home. Currently in Moses Lake WA getting fuel n food. Washington state is no better. The haze is incredible. Night riding visibility will suck. It'll be a long day but three hours til home. Let's catch up next time I'm in White Rock. You'd like my Aussie-Canadian couple friends.

Lethbridge AB to Fife WA in one day. Not bad at 1,100kms.

9PM Pacific Daylight Time, I rolled in the driveway after 13 hours all up, nearly 11 of which was straddling the saddle.
Sweet relief.

Cheers to all who followed, commented or met with me. It was an eye opening trip, and one I'd recommend and do again anyday.

When I finally went to sleep I managed ten hours flat out. I'm a five hour a night sleeper. Musta needed it. For those nearby who'd like a chance to sign the Banner(s) I'm not leaving for OZ until Saturday, 15 September. I'm willing to ride to BC, ID or other close states. Ping me and let's get more sigs on them before they go back Down Undah!

The total trip was 6,977 miles (11,228km) over 23 days, covering 6 provinces and 15 states. I snapped a fair few photos except for the three province run, of Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC, I did to try to get home by Sunday night. I'll try to get a few good ones edited that I've not previously posted up here.

Time for laundry, give the bike a good cleaning and service, and to plan the next ride. I'm thinking Washington state, a four corner tour. It's a big'un relative to the other 49 US states, so 1,400 miles (about 2,300 kms) all up. It'd take four good days due to the circuitousness nature of the local two lane highways and the variety of terrain from mountains to sea to forest to fruited plain. The Big Block would be the ideal easy cruiser...

You're telling me!! and I was parked next to it. I can only imagine how much work it actually took to bring that project all together.  All I did was a bit of cleaning, painting and replace a few parts on mine and that was my winter and well into spring.  There is so much detail on that bike that can't even be seen until you are up close.
And here it be in all its Samsung s8 glory...I got to follow the bike across the US/Canada border and 100 kilometres down the highway towards 'Tronno'. She's a sweet runner, and her builder a stellar gent. That recovered K11 (did he say it was a Corbin?) comfort seat had me eye as I have a Corbin Dual Canyon needing re-skinning.

The sun (and moon) rises through fog over upstate New York's Lake Chautauqua, after my 1,000+ mile overnight ride, which extended a further 450 miles that day into New England after a solid hour on my back, snoring in a roadside rest stop in the shade.
Cross Continent Return Ride with the Banner(s) - Page 2 20180842
A very typical central New England (Barre, Massachusetts) town 'common' area, dead smack in the middle of town, which most often include the town hall, a towering white-steepled church, library, school, post office, and usually a shop or convenience store. Having moved away from this region many years ago (23) I'd forgotten how quaint and rural these places can be.

Route 13 heading into the state of New Hampshire, the 'conservative' state amongst the other relatively liberal New England states. I recall thinking that I just wanted to Ride Free and Not Die after nearly getting scrimshawed by several inattentive car drivers within several miles of here.
Cross Continent Return Ride with the Banner(s) - Page 2 20180844
My aging father was building his eco-friendly dream home near a pond in Massachusetts when in '03 he called my younger brother, who is a master carpenter and his wife, due to the sudden onset of cancer. He passed shortly after so my brother and his wife finished the home and have lived there since 2004. We sprinkled dad's ashes amongst the lily pads in Autumn of 2003 in the pond where he often fished, swam, paddled, and ice skated in Winter. It is a quiet, restful place with only a few ghosts.

Heading back to Massatucky from New Brunswick through the White Mountains of New Hampshire on the excellently twisty Kancamagus Highway in the Pemigawasett wilderness. Ain't that a mouthful?!

Kancamagus means 'motorcycles go swiftly here' in ancient Abenaki.

Back to western Mass to meet up with my daughter, I was reminded by this road sign, as compared to Australia and the western US, just how long 'settlers' have made New England their home. This is, of course, during the days of smallpox infested blankets and cheap beads traded for thousand of acres of land. Still, 'Lord' Jeffrey Amherst gets a town named after himself.

Caveman's very lovely lady Marie snapped this one for us. She was a trooper, putting up with all the eccentric and obscure K bike talk that went on round the brekky table. I saw no yawns of boredom nor detected wiggles of discomfort from her during the two-plus hours we emptied Koffee Kups. She rides a mean V-Rod, too! Excellent folks, all.

Heading west above the Great Lakes, in this case, Lake Superior. The signs, both in French and English, said Vue Panoramique! Agreed, no matter what language.

Some well-meaning Chamber of Commerce Canuck said to himself 'Let's build one more Inukchuck'. Humour aside, all along the highways, people have cobbled together a variety of them in all shapes and sizes out of roadside rocks and shale. It's truly impressive.

By western Manitoba the skies were growing hazy. By Saskatchewan something was truly amiss. By Alberta it was difficult to breath. By BC I was turning south towards Idaho, wishing to get into Washington state in the hopes of reducing my equivalent of a statistical and unwanted 9 cigarette a day habit. I was just rolling, hoping to make it home under smoked-in hazy skies from wildfires in British Columbia and northern California. The smoke lingers still today, four days after arriving home on the west side of the Cascades in Washington.

That very day I was at home by just after dark, having ridden in smoke haze about 14 hours all up from Lethbridge AB.
A fantastic trip and many wonderful memories. I hope you liked it too.

Great stuff TWB - excellent tour and beautifully captured.

I don't know which I like better, your pics or your picture inducing narrative as you went along. Your description of those guitar playing singers and their belle outside your motel room evoked such vivid picture in my mind, I could have been there!

Top adventure. Roll on the next one.

The guitar players remind me of a rest stop outside of Mancos, Colorado where I ran across a trumpet player in a cloud of reefer smoke playing jazz with a full recording setup in the men's room.  When I asked him if it was okay to flush, he said it was and that it added some authenticity to the recordings.  We talked briefly and he told me that the natural reverb in there was amazing and the best he could find locally.

Of course this encounter occurred after Colorado legalized reefer. drunken

Well, she got us both thinking that night as evidenced by her quiet demeanour for the remainder. I held no malice in my choice words to her, only to tamp down her apparent fire, and anyway, it's good to self-reflect.

Glad you all enjoyed the pictorial. The next 'big' trip will be Down Undah during September & October, but I've got a nearer ride, closer to home planned for several days of next week.
