Hi all,

Betty the Beemer and I are planning to complete the Wild Atlantic way from sligo to Muff and then the Causway coast. Once thats completed take the ferry over to Scotland and drive the nc 500 and back home. I'm planning the trip at the beginning of June over a 10 day period.Planning is well underway and costings are made.Time off work is booked!

Later in the summer I will try for the Ironbutt 1000.

Have you got plans?

Any tips welcome for my planed adventure?

Tips on the Irish Ironbutt?

Thanks everyone.

Lets inspire each other!

I will be on my Supersport 939 and my niece should be on her 2018 Monster 821 if she does not change it for a Supersport 939.

That is not my Nieces Monster 821 in the back, but my wifes.

Looking at touring the Canadian Maritimes and Newfoundland.  Not sure of the schedule, but definitely want to avoid the tourist traffic on the Maine coast so might have to go in May.  As usual, I probably won't have firm plans until the night before I leave.

Use only Guinness as a suspension comforter. Will make you much more comfortable, and you will not care at all about how many glasses to the klm as long as you can sing whilst travelling.  Plans for 2019 905546712

I haven't got that far in the planning.  Mostly just looking at maps, but I figure around 4,000-5,000 miles over two weeks.

Riding after a lot of Guinness, you would need a smooth road with not to many bumps. Could have a Back fire and would definitely be singing come out you black and thans😂🎶.

France 1st June, ferry booked.

At the moment planning on the K1100LT but the K100RS might get pressed into service as I have tow bars for both.

ABR Ireland May weekend is likely as no K Fest in May.

Don't do Iron Butt things, do like camping weekends so a few of those.

France September looking likely due to discussion with a certain well known forum member from down under who may take my RT for a while.

Hoping for a Land's End to John O'Groats trip in 2019, got the route planned (ish) but need to start costing it out!!! Not a tight budget just a careful one!

Will be on a 1983 K00rs, I might have to raise the bars as age is starting to be felt in the lower back!

OK, I understand that there's no need to change cables etc if C bars are used, is this true?

and where can I get C bars from?

My friend ebay doesn't seem to stock them!!

Leave plenty of time for Newfoundland. There is a lot to see. Gros Morne, L'Anse Aux Meadows where the vikings settled 1100 years ago., Cape Spear, Twillingate.

When you go through Princeton on the Bonavista think of me. Take the whale watching excursion in Trinity captained by Chris Prince.

My new grandson, first one.

Mother was unimpressed when I asked about his first motorcycle ride. .......he was 9 pounds so I told her she had a new bike, a Monster.

A good pedigree....his mum managed to write off a BMW car with a bicycle when she was 12. It was about 1/2 minute after she and a friend discovered that my sons stunt bike didn't have brakes because it was a stunt bike. Nothing like a good soft landing crashing into a pub car park at the bottom of the hill and bicycle and two riders damaging a lot of the body panels and wrecking the roof of a tourists convertible BMW.

That would be my brothers. Just off camera. Yes my brother does have an S100RR [chipped] and lives on the Isle of Man. That same brother took my son for a ride on a Yamaha 750 when he was 3, sat him on the petrol tank, it was never forgotten.

Just be aware that should you venture into Germany with a trailer on a motorcycle, there are some very harsh rules. I understand that you will be restricted to 60 kmh for example.

G'day All, Plans for 2019 were made last year and have recently been completed. We have just attended three events at the Burt Munro Challenge in Invercargill NZ and then travelled some 3500Kms around the South Island of New Zealand on hired bikes.
The roads, scenery and beer were fantastic. The ride was over about 10 days with the best part being no kangaroos to worry about, only deceased possums on the road.
All in all, a great trip.

I have changed my plan and I am heading to Northern Ireland on the 23rd March to the 26th March. Will be doing "The Wild Atlantic way " from Sligo all the way on the coast to Malin head and finishing in Muff (who wouldn't ride all day to finish up in Muff ).
Then continue on to " The Causeway coast route" and Home.I will be trying to get 14 points of The Irish photo rally while traveling.hope the weather is kind and "Betty" runs sweet after getting the brake fluid change and the fork oils changed. ;BMW;

Now I have done 1,500 miles towing this I have to say its the way to go for adventures....no time at all in playing Tetris packing things and it tows like a dream. Now have fully functional wiring/trailer lights and its easy to do. All stock fittings, no modifications or purpose made items apart from the towbar itself.

Trailer empty is approx 52 kilos, swivel hitch. The swivel hitch is absolutely essential to prevent damage if the trailer [very unlikely] or the bike [far more likely!!!!!] goes over.

My 2019 tour plan is starting to shape up...I've booked time off work in late May to go and do the NC500+.

For those that are less indoctrinated with the UK, the NC500 is a 500 mile loop around the north of Scotland from Inverness, taking in the east coast up to John O Groats, across the north coast, then a run back down the west coast and back across to Inverness. I will then do a second circuit on the roads less ridden - across the middle of the highlands and then back to the west coast for a wiggle around Skye, Islay, Jura and Arran - that'll add another 750+ miles and, of course, I have to get to Scotland and back (another 1000+ miles). Probably end up doing about 2500 miles in all.

May is supposed to be "summer"in Scotland, so here's hoping that the weather is kind to me. I intend to wild camp wherever possible but, depending on the weather, I might grab the odd B&B to dry off and enjoy some comfort. Islay is starting a week of festivities at the end of my time, so it might be busier than usual, but the distilleries are going to be open for business, so a pitch within staggering distance is a must.

Detailed planning over the next few weeks.

Skye is absolutely mega, I went round the eastern side up past Uig and had an absolute blast. I was camped at Roybridge near Fort William and therefore also had to ride the A87 in both directions, the day was a big highlight. Shame it was also April and I thought my fingers were succumbing to frostbite..

It is a beautiful, done the Outer Hebrides and trust me on this piece of advice: If the weather is right and you can get there, go to Iona AND Staffa and visit Fingal's Cave on Staffa. Its a boat trip to both and Staffa is uninhabited but I spent a night on it and went to Iona early the next morning. Admittedly we had our own boat.

We did the lot...Stornoway...Tarbert.....Portrie....Kilt Falls.....Barra....Lochalsh....Iona.  ...Staffa....lots more.

We didn't go mainland at all except Oban.

If I went back again I would just go island hopping with tent and bike!

My experience there was fantastic and the hospitality beyond exceptional.

Ciaran - Pity our weeks on the NC500 don't coincide as it sounds like were doing the same thing.

I'm looking forward to it. I have travelled extensively in Scotland (lived and breathed the West coast for >13 years including skiing, diving, water skiing, fishing etc.). Spent time on Arran, Orkney, Mull, Skye, Harris & Lewis (I remember trying to do a night dive off the Butt of Lewis, only it never actually got dark) and I've visited a few of the smaller islands, but I have never ridden a motorbike there. If the weather is right, off the beaten track, up in the Highlands, it is certainly a spectacular, awe-inspiring country just oozing memories of an often harsh and violent history. If the weather is not so right, it can be even more moody and atmospheric (if a little more uncomfortable).

I must remember to pack my "jungle juice" to help ward off the voracious midges that can be present in overwhelming, eternally hungry, itchy numbers. Unlike their bigger blood sucking cousin, the mosquito, you can't hear them coming and, as they are so small and insignificant, there is zero satisfaction in swatting them...

Bucket loads of citronella nightlights and candles are a must. I never travel without them.

Folks, there's only one midge repellant, and it's not even a midge repellant. It's made by Avon (yep, the 'soap on a rope' people) and it's called 'Skin So Soft'. Order a sh*t load, and take it with you. Google it.

The reviews sound genuine...wards off the pesky blood suckers and leaves you with a lovely soft, fragrant moisturised skin! The only Avon product I've tried are bike tyres - the only way they help with biting insects is by allowing me to go much faster than the critters can fly.
