Were they standard from the factory for my '86 RS here in Australia?
Would they be fitted/not fitted according to the different countries?

They weren't necessarily standard. Some bikes came just with plastic caps pushed into the handlebar end. Others had the weight with a threaded bolt. In Australia, and perhaps other small markets too, there seems to have been a tendency for BMW to use bits and pieces that other larger markets like the US have moved on from across the board after a certain production date. An example is my two-piece front mudguard set which should have been standard from early '86 but you'll often find totally stock RS models from a coupla years later in Australia with the older one-piece (or on RTs) design. I reckon BMW had some leftovers and continued using them randomly.

I have a spare set of second hand weights if you need some. I'm using heavy duty version of Throttlemeister's weights (www.throttlemeister.com) on my 11/86 RS now with good result. They made little difference to the engine's high-frequency vibration issue, but are da' biz on long rides due to their ability to slightly lock the throttle grip, their actual intended purpose. The right hand side's a dummy.

I was looking at your picture and saw a gauge to the right of your mirror. Is this a voltmeter or a gas gauge? My 1987 K100 RS has neither, so was this an add on by yourself? Also do you have mirror extensions on your OEM mirrors?
I just broke my second or third mirror glass while attempting to pound those darn mirrors back on their pins.

Hi there, bar end weight were not standard with the old RS.
The gauge is the fuel gauge and can be refitted depending on the tank you have. Older ones are not equipped with the sensor. If your tank already has a sensor, connecting the gauge should not be a big deal.
The mirror extensions were standard with the 16V models and can also be fitted to the old 2V bikes...

The trick to getting the mirrors back on is to polish the studs and the clips to remove all corrosion and leave them as smooth and slippery as possible then lube them with some grease like Lanocote which will stay there and inhibit corrosion. Thread content, my K100 RS came with bar end weights as standard in Japan.
