Reading the New York Times coverage of the Ukrainian war and saw this photo. Thought it interesting. Anyone identify the bike?

Being Ukraine, it could well be a Dnepr, or possibly a Russian military Ural.  Both are copies of WWII BMW's so hard to tell apart.

However, judging from the shape of the valve cover surface, it's probably a Dnepr.  I don't think Urals had that shape of a knee pad on the tank either.

Don't blame the war, Dnepr are self - destructive.
I've never seen any worst made mechanics.

Mechanics or Machines? Maybe the war interrupted
the mad mechanic. Though does look like the front
fork has been raped or raked.

Worst machines, sorry.
for example, a U shaped bracket for a shock absorber.
Any maker would drill the two holes for the axle in one operation, to ensure they are in line.
Not on Dneprs... One is drilled, then the part is turned on the other face and drilled again. Controlling if the two holes are facing each other is optional.
