I have a 1996 K1100RS SE and recently when I shift into 2nd gear and accelerate, it will miss or skip once or twice before it accelerates smoothly and into the other gears, which all seem to be doing fine. I was wondering if this has happened to anybody else, or if anybody knows what could be causing this.
Thanks, Tim

Most likely a bent 1st 2nd gear selector fork causing 2nd to not mesh far enough. Solution replace the fork and gears as it will only get worse.

Bent or worn selector fork is correct. But, check the selector drum and identify the part of the drum that holds the cam follower on the fork in second gear. It's right on the tip of the cam and it can end up worn or damaged, leading to incorrect selector fork location and subsequent wear on the side of the fork, which worsens the problem. There are threads about the initial cause being sloppy location of the star-shaped detent plate on the end of the selector drum. Charlie99 has something to say about this. The best-changing K gearbox I have is one where I dowelled the detent plate onto the drum and took every bit of free play out of it. Changes like a jap!

Nah, wrong play. Selector Fork was a moneylender in Merchant of Venice.

I distinctly recall Fork being one of the brothel owners described in Sin In The Second City, although I could have the spelling wrong. The shorter hours of daylight this time of year can cause confusion, certainly.

You have daylight?
No such thing here in Grimshire. We do have a few minutes each day when we can actually see the rain, then it goes back to just hearing it on the tin roof. Does that count?
BTW the big news story over here at the mo is the rescue of a sheep that had been living a lonely life for two years after becoming stranded at the foot of a coastal cliff somewhere in Scotland. The sheep is now a celebrity and wishes to be known as Fiona.

Yeah, he tried to get blood out a stone until he found it was illegal. BMW dealers take note.

After that I will stay out of this one, I have shy locks.
