Yesterday I bought my first K bike, I bought it from a bike jumble, (a jumble is our UK version of your flea market), on sight, never heard it run, just took a chance. today it was delivered to my house, and I have spent the day cleaning, adjusting, and getting it going. well it was delivered today, so my first chance to really get to see what I bought, and as you can see it is a stunner.
Sure there a couple of small items that will need sorting, Rear indicators, weeping master cylinder, being the most urgent at this time, it also smokes quite badly when it starts, but that soon dissapears when warm, I have heard this is quite common though, although I am not sure to what extent.

I intend to to get it booked into the local garage though, and get them to give it the once over, just to be sure all is well. They can also fit a new seal set to the master cylinder while it is there. So best I show you the old girl then.

Also there was a surprise in the storage area, Tool kit, new disk lock, new cable lock, and the service pack.bounce

Well there you go, I am sure I will have many more posts and questions to come, but in the mean time you can find out more about me and my bikes on my blog here...

Absolutely beautiful. Congratulations.

If it doesn't run, put it in your living room. Better to look at than a big-screen TV.

Welcome Kevin. That's a good looking RS. You should be able to do most of the required work yourself, no need to take it to a shop. Look at this page:

http://www.verrill.com/moto/newkbike.shtml

It will tell you what to do now that you've acquired your new addiction...

Welcome, and congrats with a beautiful bike.
A leaking master is a common problem on the 4V`s.

Is there a cure for this problem?

Is there a cure for this problem?

Usually caused by corrosion in the outer end of the bore, and the piston sits rather close to the outer end.

Some fine emery paper to remove the corrosion, a good cleanout in the bore and a repair kit..........then you ready for the next 3-5 years............depends how bad the corrosion is.

Put on some silicone grease in the outer end of the bore after reassembly, to slow down the corrosion process.

Repair kit: part # 32 72 2 332 037.

It won`t hurt to change the boot at the same time, it usually don`t fit that thight after some years in service.

Rubber boot: part # 32 72 2 310 756.

Beware of the lever pivot screw, which could be a bastard to get loose.
The female threads is in the lever, and not in the housing.

Welcome Kevin.

You got a very sharp bike and it's a delight for the eyes.
I just quickly check your blog, and OMG it is something to read. So many old bikes in perfect original shape.

Welcome to this forum.

Welcome to the forum Kev - what a tidy looking RS you have found yourself there ! As already mentioned, the front brake master cylinder leak is a common issue and not hard or expensive to resolve. I look forward to hearing of your progress Wink
