Hi,

While waiting for bevel box I am messing with other accessible things. Look what I found when I opened the oil pan - have you seen similar things? There was black almost tar like residue there plus that "bird nest".

Is such dirt typical or an indication tha bike has been neglected?

Thank you,
Roy

Hi Roy,
It is typical of a neglected bike or one that has been using rubbish oil.

perhaps examining the oil pan is one of the things new owners should do 1st thing when they get their bikes.
Althou a simple job i doubt any seller will agree to have this examined.

the material on strainer and the "bird nest" were silicon gasket material - guess they used too much.

Roy,

Modern detergent oils suspend contaminants so they do not settle on engine parts and form sludge. When the oil becomes saturated with contaminant particles new particles settle out of the oil onto the internal engine parts and form sludge.
here is a very good page about oil:Motor Oil Myths and Facts
