Have you checked the R90S's handlebar to determine if there is adequate room for the K11's hydraulics and switches?

I haven't checked control length yet, but that is indeed something to determine.  I plan to lose the bar end-weights in favor of bar-end mirrors.  The fairing mirrors are coming off in a re-paint as one of them was damaged in a tip-over (plus I didn't like them anyway).  I'll put some R1200 turn signals on it to finish that part out.

Thanks Martin.  I think the other K bike bars are all too upright for what I am trying to achieve.  I was not aware that the K75S and K11RS bars were different shapes.  I have what I thought were K11RS bars on my R100RS and I know of people who use K75S bars on that bike as well.  The thing that confuses me now is that the bars I used on the R-RS were open ended whereas the bars on my K-RS are not.  Now I don't know what I have on the R-RS, but it works great for me on long trips.

I had to cut the control length down to get the K11RS bars inside the R-RS fairing.  To the point that @Laitch made, the reverse might be my undoing.  I'm also looking for open end bars in order to make the Albert mirrors work out.  Maybe there is something by Flanders or Fehling that would work.  I sure don't want to start buying, trying and returning handlebars.

The barbacks are the dead simple alternative, but then I"d need fairing mount mirrors again or I'd need to fabricate an adapter for the Alberts.

I've got bicycle bar end mirrors as auxiliary mirrors on my 75s. Made by Blackburn.

Beautiful K75S.  That is what I should have bought, but I fell in love with the K11 and heart overruled mind.  In addition to lower weight, I also like the narrowness of the S fairing (which is the main reason I am taking off the fairing mirrors).  I already have the Alberts and they have been my favorite M/C mirror for ages.  I'd like to find a way to use them.  If control length gets in the way, I may even graft on some controls from a late model R100GS.  Ah ain't skeered.  Stupid maybe.

Thanks for the compliment. I am using the Blackburn ones A/ They were cheap and available locally B/ They are light weight and flip out of the way if they are bumped. C/ They don't do any damage if clipped by a car. Disadvantages A/ I had to extend the expanding clamp due to having to move my perches further out. B/ Somebody once referred to them as caravan towing mirrors. K100RS to K100RT Handlebar swap - Page 2 44271

Hi beemerphile, I've made some changes to my K1100LT that may interest you in your quest for a different riding position.

My K1100LT is now without fairing and looks like this.

After riding a few thousand km in this mode with the standard LT bars I felt I needed the grips a few inches further forward to give me a slight lean forward riding position but nowhere near as far forward as RS bars. Months of searching later I purchased a set of bars that were termed Lucas Style Low Touring. I've done one 2,000km trip on them and while not perfect they are very good for me and look like this.

When I removed the fairing I mounted K75 mirrors on small Z shaped brackets that I made up.

On the K1100 the right hand adapter needs a left hand threaded bolt to use an existing hole in the throttle control perch.

These aftermarket bars were open ended so to mount my bar end weights I bought a couple of concrete anchors of the appropriate size, cut off the thread then bored and tapped the shaft to 8mm. Worked a treat for $6.

Smithy, another of the Aussie Krew, fitted a similar set of bars to a slightly customised K100 he had a couple of years ago but I don't have a photo of it.

Cheers

Ingenius adaptation of the concrete anchor.  Kudos for that.  The low touring is the genral direction I wish to go, but I am looking for less departure from the RS starting point.  I really think the R90S bars will be the right bend for me if they can fit the controls.  I'll get to checking the control length in a day or two, but I have the steering head off for bearings at the moment and can't check the ergonomics.

I should start a build thread and quit polluting the OP's thread as I am heading in the opposite direction.

thx - Lee

Lee when I first got my K75s it used to trap my thumbs against the tank on full lock. As my back has matured over the 20 years of ownership the bars have been rotated back, and they have also been lifted 1". Sometimes changing the angle of the bars can make a huge difference.
