Took the old girl out for a good hard ride today, brakes all seem good. Will let you know if they kill me 

Think that I will stick with EBC. I just hope that your "cheaper" ones don't see the pad material detach from the backplate at speed and lock a front wheel. Not sure that a few Euros saving is worth the risk.

I use brand name organic pads but not the sintered metal type mainly because they tear the discs up, cost a heap more and leave a heap of crappy dust all over the wheels.
I get a better feel with the organic pads and they always have given me good braking even at times of on and off the brakes and throttle for miles on end.
It all boils down to what you like and just because they are cheap does not mean inferior after the brand name pads go through an importer the distributor then a retailer all who usually double the price to get a big chop, maybe the cheap eBay pads are only cheap because there is only one person getting a profit from them.

Got that right. It's radicalized the marketplace. As long as you've done your homework there are deals out there like never before.

I tend to use organic pads for the same reason as Rick.  Sintered pads chew your disks up.

After reading a few well done comparative reviews in mags over the years I tend to just use one or two brands.  OEM generally shows as having superior braking force to any aftermarket equivalent, but a couple of the aftermarkets are consistently pretty good.  I'm not going to experiment with a cheaper brand just because they save me a few dollars when I know what I'm going to get already.  I do use my brakes, I'm not always gentle on them I want to know they'll give me what I want not just OK.

My favourite plain organic pad is Dunlopad.  I was lucky in Sydney also that we had a shop(aftermarket Ducati) that sold OEM Brembo pads at a reasonable price, they even had different compounds available, I used to go medium on the front and soft on the back.

8000 klm so far on the bargain brake pads with no problems.

I ride this bike pretty hard and I would imagine the pads get hot, no de-lamination or any other problems. I was going to add "so far" but I think if they were prone to failure it would have happened by now.

Only issues I have found are that you need to put anti-squeal on the back of them, and they need a little work with a file to fit easily.  I suspect they are punched with worn out tooling and that may be part of why they are so cheap, along with a shorter delivery pipe with fewer markups.

I like the Kevlar and carbon(organic).  As much stopping power as the ABS allows on the couple of times I really grabbed them, and instead of grinding the discs down they just polish them real purdy.  A full season on them now, and they show little if any wear.  

Disclaimer: I ride mainly as a commuter with weekend trips on some of the curvy local roads.  Riding style is quick(consistent 10mph over) but not overly aggressive.  YMMV

8000 klm's good umm so how many corners is that 4? 5? then turn around?, nice to see the temp over there has lost a 4 in the front of it

Actually a couple of thousand was on a trip up and down The Great Ocean Road. 

We rode Adelaide through Coonawarra (two day stopover) and via Barossa on the return.

Holy Moly! Less than US$15.00 shipped for three sets of pads. They're prolly Chinese-made but for that sort of money I'm gunna give 'em a go on my Big Block project. That oughta put 'em to the test.

I work in the business and buy at wholesale but this is far and away below what even the cheapest EBC, SBS or other brand of pads would cost me, even for a single set. Since I'm using a secondhand set of F800GS brake discs up the front I don't care what happens to them since I was going to get some Braking-brand petal discs once the bike is fully rolling and rideable.

I have just now ordered a set. A report to follow when I've held them up to the scope and compared them to other brands of pads I've got on the shelf, including BMW OEM which are usually Brembo, Tokico or Textar.

Just had a read of the brake pad vendor's rating on eBay. From the tens of thousands who've bothered to leave feedback they do alright, but when you look at the neutrals and negatives they nose dive muy rapido. At least they've marked my set of pads for shipping and there's a tracking number given. I should have them in days from California. Crossing my fingers, but not too terribly hard, as $14.90 for a set of three is not a great loss if they're wrong/lost/damaged or just plain crap.

If you're talking about vgcycle, who are the guys I bought mine from, the bad feedback is for their chain and sprockets.  Didn't see anything on a quick look at last month's negative and neutral ratings on brake pads.

I do know that my pads are pretty good.  Just be ready to do a little bit of fitting with a file to get them to fit easily.  For the price they charge, I can file quite a bit.

Yeah, there was a whinger talking about the backing plate coming off, and another saying he head to file them to fit, and yet another who said he destroyed them getting them out of the calliper as they weren't the right ones for the application. Let the buyer (and installer) beware!

I look forward to trying them and I will love it if they work well as I too am tired of coughing up $25 to $40 for a single set of pads. In the end there aren't many brake pad factories all round the world churning out los frenos for a single brand. It'd be funny if I recognise them as a major brand in a minor package.

As I mentioned above, like most of the bargain brake pads I've used over the years these are made with backing plates stamped by old tooling.  It's the nature of things that as the tooling wears, the parts will grow slightly larger.  It's something you should expect, and if the pads don't readily slip into the caliper you will need to see where they hang up and remove a little metal.  Trying to force them in will only risk buggering the pad, or worse, the caliper.  Normally, it only requires the removal of a couple thousandths in the right place to make them fit.  Fortunately, the backing plates are pretty soft steel and file pretty easily.

Another thing about them is that my pads like to squeal.  Probably be a good idea to invest in some squeal stop when you install them.

The brake pad set showed up within four days of my ordering them via USPS Priority Mail. I paid nothing for postage and a total of $14.90 for the three sets of pads, which, by the way, are correct for the application.



There's a small amount of metal content but they are mostly of the 'organic' variety, as advertised. There are anti-rattle clips on each front pads and the backing plate to pad material looks to be bonded well. I do not recognise them as any of the less expensive brands of pads I've sold over the years. There's no indication as to who makes them or where they're made, other than the Volar brand name on the very modest packaging.



I look forward to fitting them tonight to see whether they slip in easily or have to be filed at all. So far so good, and a heap better service from them than their eBay feedback suggests.

They fit snugly into all three callipers, with no adjustment necessary. It'll be a coupla weeks more 'til I try them over the road. I can't help but feel like I'm waiting to be disappointed, but, so far, so good.

I hope that you put some anti-squeal on the back of the pads.  Mine like to announce to the world that I am braking.  Mostly with light pressure applications.  Other than that I doubt you will be disappointed.

Eagerly waiting your final verdict.  I know I like mine, and will be buying them again.

Regarding the feedback.  I think you can disregard the negative feedback since it appears that most of it was for their o-ring chains and drive sprockets, not the brake pads.  I think they have that side of the business pretty well in hand.

Five out of ten complaints seemed to include a whinge over their shipping times, but as you can see, mine came in within days of the purchase.

I have always felt that light brake applications tend to cause a squeal in K brakes, especially of the two piston fixed Brembo and non-floater brake discs. I am using the four piston K1100 variety and F series floater discs so that might alleviate some squeal. Often a squeal is caused by scale and rust on the calliper puck to pad surface, but I'll have the pot of anti-squeal compound to hand if needed.

TWB, any word on your experience with these pads yet? 

I now have over 5,000 miles on mine, and they are going strong.  Brake squeal seems to have faded away.  Had to make a couple hard stops lately in heavy traffic, and they performed admirably. 

My only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that they can be a bit grabby at slow speeds which makes handling a bit dicey with the front end dive my K75 likes to do.  You don't want the wheel turned much when braking while idling in first gear.  The kind of situation you have when creeping along in stop and go traffic jams.  Still, for the price...

I won't be trying those cheap brake pads 'til the Big Block's rolling. Then I'll have an opinion. They look quite alright for the money and the eBay transaction was simple and straightforward. I've used Motobin's $8 pads called Ivers (?) on my K-RS back home with fairly good results. These can't be too bad.

TWB, is it safe to assume those bargain pads are working so well that you forgot you had them in there, or has that bike been overlooked in favor of one of your new flames?

I put a pair on the rear caliper of my old airhead, in the hope of making it less sensitive and prone to locking up during rapid stops.  The change has been completely satisfactory so far, but I've put less than 5 K miles on the pads.  I'd buy them again, given the need and opportunity.

Nuh, I'm using the Volar brake pads successfully on my K1200RS. As for the other projects, I'm simply pacing myself; it's living life plus motorbikes.

I pulled the BMW OEM pads from the K100RS.  They were too grabby for my taste.  I found stopping even a bit rapidly would take a lot of concentration to prevent the front of the bike diving suddenly.  The 2D Moto pads slipped right into the calipers with no issues at all.  I suppose they have yet to fully bed in, but my initial sense is that they are very good indeed. They have solved the issue of grabbiness that I was looking to resolve. They take up in a very progressive manner and seem powerful enough for me.
I understand folks worry due to their very cheap price, but I'd encourage riders to give the a test.  Bonding the Kevlar to the backing plate isn't rocket science, so a catastrophic failure seems to be an unwarranted fear, to my way of thinking.
Now, as to the diving forks.  As far as I know, the springs within are OEM and original with the bike. Who has an opinion on suitable replacements?  It seems that Wirth and Progressive both offer them, with the Wirth being the more expensive.  Is there actually a difference in quality? I've had Progressive Suspension products on various bikes over the decades and haven't been disappointed.  They are not to be mistaken for Ohlins, but then I'm not going to be mistaken for Rossi, either!
