I have had another go at fitting rear tyre again today, it fits without removing anything if I put it on the lift and get a third hand for a minute.

Before you do any more check out the ADRs about sharp edges and corners and pedestrians. I think you will find that you may need some sort of rounded rail around the front of it.

Good idea Rick, I am thinking about a five point attachment form near the goose neck down to the front of the car. Could run a littile bull bar around the front to attach it. I will have to think how

effectively this will move your front axle 50mm forward of the original location , it will make a significant change to your trail ,
maybe someone can elaborate on the expected changes to handling in the steering?
Might also be worth reading the online pdf manual from Hal Kendall just to assist with any pre kamikaze issues.
everything else is moving along swell there Waz.

That was the plan ED
The easiest way to move front alex forward was to move pivet point back.

It doesn't actually have any trail reduction because the axle is still in the same line with the steering head as the original forks.

It lines up with two lower mounts but the two top don't line up with the existing holes, I will have to weld a support to attach it.

I want to see how some have been done before I do anything. Looking forward to Bathurst so I can take a heap of photos of how others have done it.

Have been waiting on new stub axle, bearings and backing plate for brakes, all from same place and I explaned everything very carfully and nothing fitted or matched. I welded the axle in before I checked if backing plate or hub was compatible, so I could not return it, the bearings where wrong for my hub so had to get another hub now the brakes wont fit the new hub or the backing plate they supplied. This is more frustrating than golf.

Found a new supplier and a new hub so the wheel was finally fitted, no brakes yet I have to go back and buy new brakes to replace the perfectly good ones I already have. Will do when blood pressure goes down.

I have changed all the connecting bars again and again and again and again, out of three different sets I now have a miss matched set that fits the existing holes in frame work and the side car wheel is is the ball park.
Transformed again - Page 2 Img_1210

Now take it all off again clean paint and get some new bolts to replace the old ones and I hope it will be off the stand next week end.
Transformed again - Page 2 Img_1211

Only the begining of a frustration apreciation course.

Hope they are more fun to ride than they are to work on.

hey Waz , you'll need a WIDE LOAD sticker across the rear , looks to be taking shape quite well.
a bit of ballast to the left may help. a quick trip to the bottleshop may be in order.

Waz - before you go anywhere or try anything else, dump two bags of cement (or the Oz equivalent) on the frame/in the chair. It'll make the first steps of learning to drive a sidecar a lot easier. The other reason for doing this is that is will also tend to show up any handling problems that you might have with a loaded chair.

Hey Waz...that cop box on your bike looks familiar....it came with my basic when I bought it 15 years ago. I gave it to Col, but he found it too high to get his leg over and went back to a two seater. Good to see things being recycled.

doing a great job there Waz . definitely not an easy task you've undertaken . hat off to you mate.
check your compliances , I'm sure you need a forward facing white light on the front of the chair?
I see you got your Jellybean mag , good stuff.

Do you mean like this one? It's only been on for an hour or two.

Suggestion for you: even if you've still got the standard 33-amp alternator on the bike it has more than enough grunt to run a second (and even a third!) headlight. Put one on the chair - a headlight, not a spotlight. It serves two purposes; the obvious one is more light and the second one is that it widens the visual stance on the road at night.

This might help:

Turning the headlight on will engage the power relay; after that, dip-beam is automatic and hi-beam is controlled by the hi-lo switch. Turning the ignition off kills the whole circuit, so no flat battery. Wire size is all thinwall 16/0.2 (11 amps).

It got the better of me, looking at it almost ready to ride was too much, I took it or it took me for a ride without a leading link or steering damper it shook a bit and scared the crap out of me, tried to turn left and it scared the crap out of me. I took it  home and parked it for half an hour and couldn't help my self again so I took the seat out and went to the pool shop to get 7 x bags of salt for the pool on the way home I realized what a real scare was. The extra weight made every thing more noticeable it's too much fun. Better than a roller coaster. I see why they are addictive.

Thanks Al for the tips on what to expect. Still took me by surprise when I loaded it up with salt.

The weight made left corners stable but almost ripped the bars off trying to turn right.
