I read somewhere, cant find it now about the gear side foot peg vibration. It mentioned they did a fix and removed the rubber or something, i have vibration on this footpeg and the plates have the rubber in between.

Does this mean the mod hasnt been done? or is vibration through this footpeg normal.

I just want to say thanks all for the help on here, i had problems with it not starting and i stripped and cleaned every electrical connection, fitted new spark plugs, new injector O rings new spark plugs etc and now its running, all due to advice on the forum, thanks guys, im so chuffed it worked.

I believe by the end of 1985 or early 1986, the design of the foot peg plate had been modified. BMW removed the silent blocks and mounted the plate directly on the frame. Hard to understand why this is better as the rubber silent blocks should absorb the vibration. This was not a recall, but a modification on the never models.

My guess would be the rubber blocks were an idea to remove vibration, but what happened was the vibration frequency coincided with the natural resonant frequency of the foot peg and plate on its rubber buffers hence it bounced up and down much more than it would when tightly bolted.

Ahhh i see, so its best just to remove the rubbers and see what its like i guess.

Even a well-tuned K100 will have footpeg vibration at varying rpm's. Mine does it right about 100kph in top gear, and has the hard-bolted footpeg plates. In response, I tend to give it more cane!

My 86 RS had that problem when I got it. After putting up with it for some time and after reading as much as I could find, I've decided to strip the intake system and replace anything that didn't look good or was damaged.

After replacing all the rubber bits which looked ok, but were cracked and destroyed of the years, including the crankcase vent tube, the worst of vibrations disappeared. BTW the worst of the vibrations was between 3000 and 4000 rpm and very noticeable in the top gear (cruising speed for most roads).

It took a weekend to do it, but I was very happy with the results. What I am saying is that K's have far too many rubber connections and places where unmeasured air enters the system causing it to be out of "tune". The system MUST be leak free from the air filter to the cylinder head. I would look for other causes only after I service the intake system (tune the bike).
