YSS vs Original rebuild.
I needed a new rear shock or rebuild as the return valves had blocked up and the rebound became so slow that the shock remained compressed. The rebuilder recommended told me this was common. The price to rebuild was the same as YSS new shock from UK. I have just put one on and I love it. Just rode to work 40km highway and rough back roads. Some level crossings as well. It is perfect straight out the box set up 70 to 110 weight for the K100. Don’t know how long it will last but only cost a little under 300.00 Aus.

If you never need to modify the spring pre constraint, this can be a interesting investment indeed.

But if you need to modify that pre constraint... I wish you courage and patience!

The original system with a 3 or 4 position adjustement by specific lever had two huge advantages: fast to achieve and giving an obvious idea of where you are compared to the extreme values.

I once changed my original Showa shock absorber for such an alternative solution with micrometric adjustement by notched nut and counternut, presented as a technical positive argument. That purchase was rather quickly replaced by a shock absorber fitted with an hydraulic pre constraint system. That permits me to know where I am compared to the original value, and to make the eventual change relatively quickly  Smile

Thanks the reply. My R series still the original and it’s Ok. The quick adjustment is good when going between single and two up. The K was too but the self adjustment would set the shock hard on the highway and then brake my bake first pot hole or ruff patch I hit prior to re adjusting. Even when it was new it wasn’t the best. BMW tried but it was always a compromise. As soon as I can I’ll take the bike wife for a run and see how it go’s. I will post my report 🤓 In years gone by I’ve adjusted plenty like this new one, it’s never been a problem and I can’t see why this would be. But having said all that I agree that the three step original adjuster is a good simple system.
