I'm replacing my worn out oe rear disc with a new EBC from Motorworks. I've managed to removed the 3 screws without any trouble, but prizing the ring off is proving a little more tricky.

So far, Ive had the disc in the oven for half an hour (along with a wonderful Marks & Spencers Chargrilled Vegetable Pasta Bake - in case you were wondering), but I'm mindful of damaging the relatively soft alloy teeth of the ABS ring. I can confirm they mark easily. Flat head screw driver seems to be the likely tool, but the thing aint budging. So, before I completely bollocks up this ring, any tips?

Heat is your friend, along with a delish Marks & Sparks meal afterwards. The ring will eventually break free. Do you have a more focused point of heat like a heat gun or propane flame?

I do indeed possess a heat gun (both electric & fire stuff).

Perhaps the oven method warmed the entire assembly up, instead of focusing just on the ring. (forgot the garlic bread though).

When it comes to putting the ring back on the new rotor, does it need anything between the surfaces or just metal to metal? 

I'll dab some thread lock on the 3 screws & the 2 counter sunk screws.

I'd just make certain the two mating surfaces are clean. You could dab a bit of anti-seize in there for ease of separation later on. I'd do that with the two countersunk screws as well. They're not going anywhere so threadlock is overkill.

- Put the disc in the freezer for 48 hours.
- Heat the ABS ring up
- Drop the ring on the disc
- Run the screws in to pull it all the way down
- Have a brew while waiting for the temperatures to stabilise.

Old trick for putting crankcase bearings in but with a suitably modified description.

That is a job to be done when, in may case anyway, the lady of the house was out as the freezer and the oven are both in the kitchen so the job was done on the kitchen floor immediately in front of the oven.

As per Dai's instructions, mind you I did put the disk in a zip lock plastic bag for domestic political purposes while in the freezer and I heated the ring at 200 deg C for an hour in the oven.

The ring drops straight on. At least it doesn't have to be done regularly as it will take a while to wear out those EBC disks.

The new (EBC) disc arrived today from Motorworks. Have to say, I'm very impressed with the quality. Will definately be investing in the fronts later later in the year
