Hi all -

So, the more I consider your advice plus what I've continued to read, if my bike has sat for ten years do I just plan to replace every last bit of rubbery anything that's had to do with that nasty old fuel? Do I even bother bench testing the fuel pump (which alone costs over $400 from CalMoto BMW) except for my own edification?

Oh heavens do not buy the 400 dollar fuel pump. There are new substitute fuel pumps for around 100 dollars or so. Search this Forum for information on optional quality new fuel pump replacements.
Previous threads should point you in the right direction.

I would consider changing the breather tube(z tube) and all fuel lines both in and out of the tank. Cooling system hoses seem to hold up pretty well. I have yet to have a problem with any on 5 bikes so far.

Also change the fuel filter and service the injectors. When you change the fuel line in the tank you want to look at it and make sure it's not full of goo from the fuel pump vibration damper which is some kind of rubber that turns into licorice when old fuel eats it. As long as you have the injectors out, you might want to flush the rail.

There is a good chance that the old fuel has seized the fuel pump. Sometimes you can get it running, but it's probably easier and more reliable to replace it. There is no need to spend a pile of money on an official BMW pump. There are now kits with the pump and mounting parts that sell for about $100. There are threads here that discuss these cheap fuel pumps.

+1 .75 Make sure the fuel line in the tank is rated as submersible SAE 30 R10. Quantum do a complete or partial fuel pump kit.https://www.bing.com/aclick?
