Wow!! I had to put on my sunglasses JUST to look at those photos!! Excellent work, Halo, as usual. When I do my exhaust headers later this spring, I'm going to get them coated in ChromeX, primarily for the reduced maintenance and heat reasons.

Additional time taken to get that mirror finish on the pipes etc by hand sanding done. You could get the same effect yet not so high polished finish alot quicker say 10 hours ? remember mine were very dirty.

Thanks 88KE, well it's been abit slow going on the 84 as the 86 has been taking some of the lime light up, however I did rebuild the front master cyclinder on the weekend the kit was 80$ at the local bike shop which includes the plunger and seals (not to bad really for a bike shop).
I have been lent a 200mm bench grinder (my other one is smaller) and using the correct buffing sticks (josco brand) I amk playing with the high polished look for now.

Before

Have you thought of anodizing them it can look very classy and so suitable for a brick.

When I built my outfit I had the Wasp wheels anodised. They never looked polished, just a silver finish, but they've never corroded even after 24 salty English winters. At the same time I had the Vincent wheel hubs anodised and, probably because of the alloy mix, they turned dark grey, so now they look like magnesium hubs!
Paul.

Anodizing shouldn't mean you are locked into that colour choice forever. If you search the net particularly Youtube, there are ways to easily remove the anodized colour and return to the bare aluminum look. This involves soaking the part in Drano Gel or "Greased Lightning" cleaner.

I suppose if Halo got hold of a part made of wood for his 84 K, it would shine like a star after a few rounds of polishing Laughing

Well I went and did it, I like others have been watching out for the K1100 rims cheap and it just happened that on gumtree in Australia( local trader online like ebay) I picked up a good deal for my 86RS
I purchased the following
Rear K1100 rear wheel and tyre $65
Throttle cable $20
K1100 front end including tripple clamps $350
Four Injectors $40
K1100 airbox and rubbers $20
K1100 front master cylinder and lever $20
K1100 rear master cylinder and lever $20
Clutch lever and choke assym $20
Front switches both sides $100 (great condition) $100
And on it goes

Tipping all the above is a good thing for my 86RS the rear end is the paralever already off a K1100

Cheers guys thanks for the words of encouragement. Well I upped it again abit by fitting the K1100 throttle bodies to the 86RS . 88KE is correct after the transformation the only K100 part left on the drive train will be the block.
Charlie was right the hardest part was the custom throttle cable. I used an after market 15$ generic type but it was very painful to come up with the right length (inner vs outer etc magic number happens to be 115mm innner greater than outer (K100 throttle to K1100 TB's for a 86RS at least anyway))

Also purchased injectors for $40 and the K1100 exhaust for $50 from the bloke I got the parts off last night

Halo
