Just picked up some HDPE sheet for a little DIY rim protector fun and the tires arrived at lunch so I'm going to get these on over the weekend and finally get a chance to test out some of the tire mounting tools I purchased/made...

Just a few pics of my makeshift bead breaker and tire box.  Made out of scrap and a friend did up the latch on the bead breaker.  The HDPE rim protectors work fantastic and much cheaper than motion pro.  Had my roommate shoot a quick and dirty video of the off/on so I'll get it posted when I get a chance...

Excellent work. Looking forward to the balance video.
I was going to comment on not seeing snow on the ground, but I see from your attire it is still bloody cold.

I thought you could deflate the tyres and run the bike up and down the drive once or twice to break the bead?

Thanks mate.  Yes, freakishly dry and chilly here this year.  I slapped the rear wheel on my little makeshift truing stand this morning and it's definitely going to need a little more bracing/glueing before it is ready for prime time...

Hey everyone.  While we're talking wheels can someone tell me if there is indeed a difference between the 85 wheel and the wheel on the Mk II's.  I've been looking at pics of the machined edge wheels on the special edition and the k75s and they appear to have a center section shelf that mine do not have.  Maybe I just need to put my glasses on!?

Your eyes are ok OG.

Saw the post only recently. There are indeed two different patterns for the rim. Will try to hunt out the post.

MacGyver bead breaker: use your sidestand

Not ideal, but it does work. And not practical if you have only two wheels, obviously.
There's a YouTube vid of a guy demonstrating this on his GS.

Hey Mate!  How are things down under?  I've done some wheel/tire combos that are not nearly so easy, but the MkI rims are super easy.  Got the HDPE from a local shop in town called Tap Plastics...great guys and about $7.50 for a healthy sized sheet.  Just hauling the old girl out of mothballs and hoping to have her ready to hit the road next month! Of course now that I've seen Ghosty's excellent work I want to finally get the special edition finish on the wheels so I might have to put in a call to Brooks Performance coatings!

Working way too much, but finally got out into the garge this a.m. to at least fire the old gal up and starter was just spinning with zero engagement of the sprag cluth.   Sad   A little disappointing as I flushed it with Amsoil when I bought her and have been running the 15-50w mobile 1.  Any of you guys have good experience trying to repair the clutch with the mek/acetone mix and ultra fine sand paper?  Also, if I'm going in this far I'm thinking the clutch and pressure plate needs to be inspected along with of course the rear main, and I suppose the output shaft rivet inspection too...  Anything I'm leaving out please chime in guys?

Thanks,
OG

good here mate ...good to see you haven't forgotten about one of the joys in life ol mate and your bismark is a real good looker !!!

bit brokus cactus mostly here since Christmas ...just a time and motion thingy at work ,
so have been fiddling around with anything that I have on hand ...without costing anything to buy ...but the pull down for output shaft fix is planned as soon as i can get the readies to get the bits I know I need ....many are already got ...and some just a hairs breath away ...but just those little things like this and that seal that needs to be researched just a little more and then got ....whilst im in there for replacement .
some planned rides , rallys etc keep life interesting to say the least ...and the commute to work on gerty is always a heart pausing challenge from time to time ...(egads some folks have no respect for others on the road )

hope you like the way gerty is trending so far .....got a zillion thing that needs to be done ...( led gear change indicator ...blooming odometer gears to be replaced ...dyno run with the current setup as a comparison ...flowbench to make and so forth

its all a wonderful challenge

just get a mate and push that bismark down the road in neutral gear, jumping on as you select (second gear ) with the clutch pulled in  and bounce on the seat as you let the clutch out (ignition on of coarse ) ...helmet nearby ...and put a few miles on the old girl mate

I would like to suggest ... you need a visit from another k rider ...to remind you of the great inspiration you have been to many of us ...  would love to oblige ...but cannot at this time

cheers mate

Thanks for the kind words mates!  Yeah, Chaz i had this fantasy of bump starting the Bismarck yesterday during a little break in the weather.  I use to always bump my old Gpz street racer back in the day so I thought no big deal right... than as I was pushing her to a suitable spot in the street my old hamstring starts talking to me about half way down, and I realize, wait a minute, that was over twenty-five years ago and that old Kawa weighed about a 130 pound less than my German battleship!   Embarassed   So, needless to say I headed back into the garage and will try to get a mate to help me bump her this weekend...

TWB you are always welcome to send me a text or leave a message on VM when you guys on coming down to the Rose City.  Would luv to buy you guys a beverage and talk bikes!  I'm almost always off on Monday's and with a little notice can usually get out for a bit of mischief.

Best,
OG

No worries and thanks. Canada this weekend, a busy April at work, then early May the most likely time for a visit South, and the weather will have brightened a smidgen more by then.
Cheers.
