Hi there.
Regarding the subject, manual (Haynes) indicates to set the seal flush with the housing, but service bulletin 2798 indicates to let it projecting 0.5mm out in order to ensure a perfect seal.
IŽll appreciate your opinion on this issue.

0.5 mm is the new way to install it. You took the right approach by checking the service bulletins. This is why I put a link on the main page (This was a request from Phil_Mars to have them more accessible). They contain a lot of information about modifications and improvements.

Hi JAP,
The reason usually quoted for doing this setting the seal in a different position trick is so as to have the seal lip bearing on a new unworn part of the shaft so it is worth doing and will increase the chance of a successful reliable repair.
