i have been doing some thinking ...( yes dangerous stuff ) and the cheapest power supply i can think of ....might be atx "pc" type power supply ....yes just about 12 volts ...but in the area of 30 odd amps .....hmm serious numbers there ...a second handy might cost $20 ...what is it ....5volt standby (always on ....to "power good signal" or something to turn it on ...to ground to turn it off ? ....i better look it up)

i think the real benefit of the ultrasonic is to vibrate the little holes and crevices with an active cleaner ..where we cant normaly get at .....injectors, bypass air cavities and such ?

Yes atx supplies are the cheapest agreed lucky for me we also have four 2O amp 24 volt supply modules laying around from a previous job I can use that helps me for this custom one I want to build first. Yes looks like the TB are going back individually into the soda blaster tub for a second round of cleaning to take the excess corrosion off that I thought the ultrasonic cleaner would do Charlie.

halo, I edited my post once I opened my eyes and read you had coated the engine and noticed the pics... The air dryer i used was for a hooded blasting helmet. carbon filter setup for breathing compressor air.

Well just re soderblasted and ultrasonic cleaned the TB (took all evening) anyway they are now ready for the clear coat treatment tommorrow yeah weekend.

Yes the injectors are next Blakey I am doing KBS Gloss Black, reading I have done suggests gloss black is the easiest black to clean as well.

Cheers Guys, I have finished the cleaning aspect of the TB's first I dismantled the four TB's so I could spray the aluminium parts



Then I taped up the parts that I didn't want the clear coat to touch



Then sprayed and reassembled

Yes Rick G you are correct this is my thoughts on all parts I have asthetically reconditioned for instance it looks good whats done to the TB's but will they ever work propperly again as I will have a s!!t of a time recentering the disks as it states in the Haynes manual not to touch these. Cover is easy though just run a shallow blade being very careful just to break the paint surface I did this to the over side already and all good. The engine gets stripped down again now to insert final drive seals and oil pump rebuild kit etc.

Yes thanks CR62 for your words of encouragement its my first resto and I'm having heaps of fun, now on the oil/water pump rebuild with Berts notes I need to spray housing black first then rebuild. Took the old shaft out and cleaned looks pretty stuffed no wonder she was leaking.

Hi Halo,
When my seal failed, the shaft was also shot. The parts to repair it (from Motobins) were about £110, new shaft, impeller and seal kit, ..... a complete new pump was 'only' £203, so that was, to me, the sensible option.

Good idea in hind site SCP but I am keen to rebuild the pump with Berts section, wow IK that was good advice from KF with the superglue would have never thought. Got the old seal out and cleaned the pump up with the trusty soda blaster, I did get the kit from Motobins a few months ago good prices

It depends where... If it`s pitted between the water pump and oil pump, this is a normal wear as the shaft is expose to air and water (through the small drain hole in the bottom of the engine)

What are you using currently as your soda blasting cabinet? Is it the homemade box? or did you empty the grit out of the sandblasting cabinet? I am wondering how well the sandblasting cabinet in comparasion to the homemade box....

Hi Twincarb I found the home made box worked the best proberly due to the gun that I purchased being better in the home made one. I used that large cabinet though for the engine inwhich I took the gun out of the home made box.

Yes OG I got pretty much got all the parts last time from motorbins this was just the guff I forgot. Time is my killer now as I trying to service the ditch witch as well parts hard to find but engine is Wisconsin so still can source most bits the hydraulics are doing my head in though as someone mistook the hydraulic reservoir for the radiator one and there is water in it. I have to rebuild a couple of the rams and finding expensive and then there's the house renovations as well, not to worry though as I like a challenge

I admire your energy levels Halo. Reminds me of when I was building my own house - bought an old Massey Ferguson digger for the job and hadn't factored in the time for overhauling hydraulic pumps etc, and all of that while restoring an old range rover and working on both the job, the house and the family.

Heed the cautions of the older goats and don't forget to factor in some down time for yourself with all these projects otherwise you'll hospitalise yourself as I did on a couple of occasions.

Painted the sump and oil/water pump this morning getting ready for oil/water pump rebuild tom and replacing the oil level window, used the KBS black for the first time.

Working on the house today as well look what I found with the foundations in the corner when I went to lay insulation under the floor boards back to the drawing board @@&*#@!!!!

Yep 100year old houses have 100year old stumps. Looks like they lasted well though.
