Sorry for reviving the old post, but this is good information. RicK G, Is the M12-1.5 stud coarse or fine thread?

1.5mm pitch is standard pitch for an M12. This might be useful:-

In the U.S., M12-1.5 coarse thread is NOT the standard pitch though.

What's your source for that assertion, rs? Can you provide the link?

Suzi Q should advise you because machining is in her genes. Smile In the interim, there's this.

Use what you can find. Fine thread bolts have greater threads per inch than coarse thread bolts; for our purpose, it doesn't matter who-calls-which-what, or which you use if you aren't a stunter leaping ramps regularly. If the hole and bolt have the same thread pitch, they're likely to fit together.

If you're needing to tap the hole, you choose the thread pitch and diameter you want to use and tap accordingly. If you want to use an 8.8 grade bolt that's 12mm width, use the pitch that's available.

When my shock's stud bent, I extracted it. This was in 2013. Rick G had already given his recommendation in the thread. After realizing he drag-raced, had a beard and could write intelligibly, like the instruction-following drone I am, I got one and used it because it fit the threads in the hole and because I'd rather ride than ruminate. I had no trouble finding an appropriate bolt at Ace Hardware to fit the hole.

What you really want to spend time doing—instead of going further down the rabbit hole you've entered—is fabricating one of these once you've mounted the replacement stud.

After a thorough web search including our forum, there are a range of different claims about the diameter and thread pitch of the rear shock mount stud.
I've just measured mine with vernier's and a thread pitch gauge. Correct diameter is 12mm (not 10mm as some have posted). Correct thread pitch is 1.75 coarse (not 1.5 as some have posted).

As a person who's suffered the ignominious shockie stud breakage whilst riding two-up (while overtaking a car) Down Undah, I know full-well what a hassle it is, so I carry a spare, and two nuts with which to unscrew the broken one if it's got anything sticking out....Thanks to Rick G and Marg we had the offer of a comfy bed, a trailer ride, dinner, and a pleasant evening with friends, home the next day, instead.

Re-reading the entire thread I see that one person mentioned 10mm and was corrected, then said "oops".

I'm fairly certain the general membership know it's a 12mm stud, and that .05 thing is surely a typo.

Here's a piccie of the two (OEM stud part numbers as spares) lengths with a thread pitch gauge doing its job.
