After about half a dozen try and fails I think I now was able to install that wire so that it can't move too much. +100km testdrive without any jamming. Lets hope it is really OK, since I will go on a 5 day trip with this bike week from now.

Plans: Spring 2016 I will drive those mud tyres to slicks, since the tarmac is very tyreconsumpting after winter. Then I clean the bike thorougly and install new ME880 tyres for the last of the season. Front brake fluids will be changed too at spring. 2016 end season maintanance will be changing of all oils and motor oil filter.

Ah must be almost bed time for your bike.

It has been sleeping already from first of october... No time to ride, no inspiration to drive. Only under 5000km this year. Maybe next year is better. 

Had some losses this year, it may have been affecting. At March end of a relationship that I thought would last forever. And couple a weeks ago my mother passed away. She had ALS, did not live more than few months after the diagnose.

Sorry to hear about your mother, Tenox. Lost my Dad about 2 months ago. At 99 he just couldn't keep going.

But by far the hardest thing for me was/is/still getting over a long term relationship. I'm only now just getting back on top of things. The best thing to do is to make some big life changes which I'm in the middle of doing right now and should've done ages ago.

My mother passed away last year, I think of her little contributions all the time, On Sunday I will remember that I have read about your mum here.

I know the feeling when these things happen and there are quite a few of us who have been down this road as some of us have mentioned in posts from time to time. The forum has been a great help and even though we don't often meet the people we chat to it certainly does one good in getting a focus back on life.

Perhaps that's why we love to see visitors over here, it's two way and good for all of us. Sometimes its nice to travel on ones own and just meet people and enjoy their company. I know you guys are a long way off but a precedent has been set of travelling up this way and maybe stick it in your bucket list. Between us all I am sure we will find some good company, camping gear, some nice refreshing places to go, even a bike all without breaking the bank. 88KE and myself have found that some of the best trips are had on the lowest budgets so don't be afraid to try it. With enough warning we all try and get to meet anyone along the way or even take time off with them.

We can't promise sunshine all the way but we all know if weather is to be bad a K is good, even better is that when weather is bad you don't have to park the bike.

Season start. First two rides, only about 150km. Next month bike will not be insured, so next trip at may. Bike performed nicely, no problems.

A good start to the new riding season

First 1000km for this season. Nice warm weather, bike runs like an angel, but I do have one big problem. Front end shakes really really heavily when braking. This has been a problem for some time now, but today after my friend changed the brake liquids (last changed at 2009...) and brakes started to work like they should, problem got worse. Shaking is so violent, that if I would not have own teeth in my mouth they would fell off.

Any ideas what causes this? Front forks leak oil - last fill was 2013, have I run out of oil in forks? I don't think so, because front suspension etc. works fine otherwise. Brake discs seem to be straight, and brakes seem to work ok.

Headstock bearings. Check the top adjuster hasn't come loose.

Disc variation in thickness, or more likely disc run-out are often causes of this issue. 
Use a dial gauge to check run-out as the wheel is turned, and a micrometer to check disc thickness in multiple places. There is a special type that goes around the outer unworn part, but there are workarounds for that. 

Often the run-out is small enough that it isn't picked up by the naked eye.

Thanks for the tips. I will start on these two things.

Headstock bearings are fine I think. Solid and stable. Discs are 4mm thick allaround. I think that problem might be at front wheelbearings. Or discs are twisted. Trying to figure out which it is tomorrow. Today I cleaned and tested brake calibers and they are in good order as are the brake pads.

Freezing the bearings overnight might be a good idea. Heating the rim? No. That is a completely stupid idea on BMW's part. Look through the wheel bearings on the wheel and you will see a spacer between the two bearings. Item 2, here:

What you do next is personal preference (and down to whatever tools are available!); you need to lever that spacer to one side and crush the two thin flanges that hold it in a central position (you can see the flanges on the picture). Rick has used a big lever - of course, damaging the old wheel bearings isn't a problem. I used a very sharp cold chisel that just fitted into the groove between the ends of the spacer and the two wheel bearings and hit it with a heavy hammer. Other people have also used the lever and hammer trick.

Once the spacer has been moved to one side you will be able to get a big drift onto the edges of the bearings and drift them out as you would with any other wheel. Again, what you do with the crushed flanges is up to you; I think most people have straightened them out again with a pair of pliers and then put the spacer back in. I pulled them off and threw them away. It's easy enough to hold the spacer up with a screwdriver (or a finger) through one side while you thread the front spindle through the other. After all, just about every other bike on the market does not have those flanges on the front or rear wheel bearing spacer.

Thanks for this info. Only now I was this morning at my garage and took off both brake calipers, lifted the front wheel up, and it spins without any problems. So I think that the bearings are OK.

I have read on another forum on BMW brake discs that they tend to create a spot of different friction if bike is long time in one place. And I think this is what has happened to me too. 6 months in storage...

Problem is that it may be impossible to fix, other than with new discs. I will try to clean them today and take the bike for a long drive and we will see does it help. When I spin the wheel with calipers on, there is a spot where the wheel does not spin as good as it should.

New tyres (Avon Roadriders) and checked everything, sanded and cleaned front discs. Much better now. But still shaking. So I'm quite sure that the front brakediscs are the reason.

I will sell my K100 this summer. So my time with these motorcycles was from 2012 to 2016. Kawasaki ZX10R from 2006 already in garage, but 171 horsepower measured from rear wheel is bit too much for me, so the plan is to change that to Moto-Guzzi V11 or Griso.

Edit: I would sell it, if someone would buy it... Nearly free already and no interest.

And my last K100 is finally sold. Never again no matter how fun it was. Too much work for me. Went cheap 2000 euros. Paid 4000 euros and invested 2000 euros on it... Well thats life I guess.
